Well, the coven are pretty much my favorite warcaster(s) of all time and I've been playing with them for almost as long as I've been playing Warmachine. With Perfect Conjunction, the Coven can drop three Power 13 spells with boosts to hit and dmg. Give them arc-nodes to top it off and you've got a 33" range for assassinations.
Coven at 495/500 pts:
1 Witch Coven of Garlghast
1 Slayer
3 Deathrippers
1 Scarlock
1 Unit of Bane Knights (9)
1 Unit of Bile Thralls (9)
How it works:
The Slayer and Units draw fire up the center. Witch Coven casts and upkeeps Occulation on the entire army (Scarlock helps). While moving into position, the Coven stays base to base with the Engregore. An entire army of stealth gets tricky for shooty armies like Cignar to deal with. When closing in, your enemy watches either the arc-nodes hitting the flanks or the Heavy Jack and two devistating units hitting his face. With their 9 focus, the Coven can feel free to support/assassinate as the situation calls for. Usually, I run one arc node in to push for an assassination early. If I lose it, it's only a 38 point light jack... And my opponent's had to delay a model/unit to eliminate it.
(750 pt list comming soon.)
So, tell me what you guys think, any way I can improve this list?

Yep, that's a solid 500
I prefer a couple of Nightwretches and a Deathripper instead of the slayer
but this is just because I love chickens

Well, I like the Slayer more for the fact that he needs to be dealt with by the enemy. They have to commit resources to him or he'll do a number on most of their valuables. Also, if the assassination attempt goes south, it's good to have a heavy to fall back on with a bit of umph behind him. Not saying the Units and Coven couldn't get it done on their own, but I'd like a heavy hitter if my arc-nodes are dealt with. ((It's like two strategies in one!))

I got to play against the Nightmare friday night.. I wasn't too impressed.. My Warpwolf took it out in one turn with no boosting and only forcing twice.
I know the Knights and what they can do, but once committed, they drop to most infantry.
I cant say much for Cryx since I dont know all their rules, but I do know that the Deathrippers with Scarlock make it hard to deal with since they bounce magic from the Coven.. Knowing just that, I would say it's a great list with almost unlimited range and alot to deal with.

if the wolf charged it is no wonder the nightmare was not any good. thn again a slayer would have dropped too...
if the nightmare charged and the wolf was it's prey it should have been as good as dead, with + 2 mat (effective mat 9) and +2 str (so str 17, or 22 with combo (bad idea )) f the right caster was used it could have been worse for the wolf...
I think you just got the wrong impression...

Yeah, Nightmare's abilities help it offensively. If it eats a charge with Throatripper going
off, then it's not going to last. It has fewer damage boxes, lower armor, meaning
that hits deal at least 1-2 damage more, and they have at least 2 fewer
boxes to soak up damage.

Occulation is an upkeep spell therfore you can ony have it cast upon one model/unit.
Otherwise not a partcually exciting list, although credit must be given for fielding a Slayer.

I'm not attacking how good the Nightmare is, only stating that for the points, the only thing it has is the "Prey" ability.
He's mostly just another Jack. My Wolf was not the Prey, that's why I charged with it.
Warpwolf charging with Throat Ripper going off takes out pretty much any Jack in the game, or at least that's what's happened over the 5-6 games I've played against Warmachine.
Again, I'm looking forward to seeing this army and how it works.
