I got a new computer. My old one had my music library for iTunes on it though. Sadly that computer ate the big one with a hard drive melt down. Is there any way I can get the music from my iPod onto this new computer? I've heard if I download iTunes to my new machine it will just erase my iPod when I plug it in. I've also heard the opposite, that it will upload your music into the new iTunes on the new machine. Just though I'd ask the fine folks at Dakka before I took a leap of faith in my technology.

Also, my 1000th post.

Pic way related.

I did this yesterday, so it does work!

Connect your ipod to your machine, and go onto the disk drive for it through my computer, you'll see about four folders on there. What you need to do is show hidden files. All apple do is hide the files on your ipod, so it's pretty simple to get them off. Right click, go to properties then find the little box for 'show hidden files' and tick it, a whole load more files should appear. If that doesn't work just search help for show hidden files, it'll show you how to do it. Copy those files to your desktop, then in in the properties of the desktop files make the files unhidden, then upload them to your itunes. Once you've done this you can sync your ipod to your itunes again.

If I haven't explained it well, you can google 'get music off ipod' and there should be some instructional videos.

Opinions are like arseholes. Everyone's got one and they all stink.

Thanks a ton! I'll finally be able to listen to my music while I'm gatting rebels here in Africa.
