The M-1 cum Chapel has been posted before, but I'm guessing not a few AdMech players would kill for some of these sculptures!

Looks like a "conversion" seen in Modelling/Paint that consisted of a GW tower building glued atop a LR.

Very cool but I always wonder How is this art when the stuff done for the hobby is not considered art?

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Llamahead: Very cool but I always wonder How is this art when the stuff done for the hobby is not considered art?
One of the strongest nays to our hobby as art is that (in general) we construct prefabricated kits.
That kit being the whole of the piece, thus the entirety of the 'art' is not your own.
This excludes even the best miniature painting from gaining credibility.

It's like an cell painter (for animation).
They didn't design the characters or the scene.
But they are using their technical expertise to transfer the artist's image to a viewable form.
It's the same with making an Ultramarine army.
You didn't make the Ultramarines or their heraldry or design their armor.
Your illuminating someone else's artistic vision.

These assemblages are composites of many non-related prefabricated items made into a cohesive whole.
Which takes much more creative energy than putting together a model.

Now, that said, working with miniatures creatively via sculpting and extensive conversion is gaining ground in the art field.

Art is not primarily about the medium it is about the ideas expressed through the medium.

Look at the Chapman brothers' installations or sculptures made with dolls. No-one says they are not art because they are made with dolls. They are conceptual art.

There's no reason why an art installation couldn't be made using GW models. The key point is what kind of ideas the artist tries to express with them.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

If the Surrealists could drop a flower in a urinal and call it art ...

If Robert Mapplethorpe can take a picture of a finger in a guy's pee hole and call it art ...

If <<forgot name>> can smear sheep blood and wool over black and white industrial scenery photos ...

... then my meticulously converted and lovingly painted Space Wolves sure the heck are, too !!!

And, to bring this back on topic ... Very, VERY cool work on this artist's part and I'd love to get some for my game room !!!

This is some sick/awesome stuff...the man can draw/paint/model. I prefer the modeling and more surreal drawings, though. That artwork should have inspired Fallout 3 for example.
