Okay, so we get not one, not two, but FOUR new Dreadlord models. Great.
Also, three new (metal?) shield packs.
So where are the Hydras, or the Cold One chariots? Y'know... models we actually need?

Ummm, there was a new Hydra released with the army book. Not sure what you looking are for.
I agree they need a Chariot.

Hydra?
Like the new one you got a few months ago?
I do agree that you do need a new chariot release, even if just new cold ones for it.

I'm still waiting for them to update just about everything that hasn't already been updated.
The new Cold One Knights, Corsairs, and Hydra are fantastic but the flipside is that they make every other model in the army look like crap now. The rest of the Dark Elves could use a serious makeover and I'll be avoiding getting into them until at least the Warriors and Dark Riders see the sculptors tool again.

I assume they released those extra Dreadlords because they make perfect fodder of the Collectors' Range and thus create an incentive to buy via Mail Order. Same with the shield packs, plus they need something to train sculptors on, I guess.

I was fairly disappointed by the new dreadlords, the female one on foot only has boobs as any indication it's female, the mounted fella with the swords raised over his head is straight from the red age of sculpting, I hoped GW were over that 'all together, arms outstretched and say arrrgh' pose they used on every damned character model once upon a time.
Considering the great work we've seen on other ranges lately, these are really not to my taste at all. If I do go back to warhammer fantasy, as I've been thinking, and I decide on dark elves, I'll be getting my character models from another source, most likely the wargamezone line or some other.
The GW range are a big step backwards.

Sadly its more of a case of attack of the Morleys than anything else. In general the Dark Elf figs released with the book last year have been looking really good.
Oh and don't get me wrong I love some of Garys Specialist games stuff (or what where full GW games before the term'Specialist Games' came along.) I also like quite a few of his figs for Lotr even if I still have little to no intention of getting them.
However I don't know what it is, but apart from a few exceptions it seems to go drastically wrong whenever this guy sculpts for the main two systems. Nagash o.O, Kruellegh the Vile O.O to name just two and now these three Dark Elves.
The guy pointing is just boring, the female is well below par, and tbh I'm surprised he dared do a female again after Kruellagh. The mounted noble battle standard is worst however, reminds me of a Wood Elf fig from 20yrs ago. Thats bad btw.
I think it says in the side bar he's the GW Elf sculpting master or some such nonsense, because if he is, we who field the Elven lines are doomed.

Morley... they have to redo the entire dark eldar range... Nagash is still reviled as the ugliest model they ever made... Is he JJ's brother in law or something?

He's done a lot of the LOTR minis IIRC. Maybe it's just heroic scale that gives him trouble (remember the plastic Necromunda Goliaths?).

I felt for Gary Morley* when he took over Elf/Eldar/Dark Kin duties from Jes Goodwin. That's like Pee Wee Herman taking over from Vince Lombardi at the Packers.
* I also lost all desire to buy any more Eldar whatsoever.

Hmmmmmmmm.... Well I just been reading that Morley and GW parted ways (I also visited his website and realised I do like some of his models, so apologies G Morley, I own Krell the undead and verymuch like him, I also still own the necro with the wispy beard, I just hated the giant novelty skull on his staff).
So, he's got a talent, just don't care for his elvish/eldar stuff (which is all GW seemed to make him sculp?!?)
