Cool. I'm not sure I care for the way the knee joints are done, but I think that could be fixed up with a little work. They definitely look cool in groups, like in that one picture.

It's kind of too bad the style of LotR miniatures is so much different than most Warhammer Fantasy stuff, because it's a really cool style, I think. I've considered picking up a few LotR things just to paint, as the cavalry is particularly choice.

Ugh, I'm not impressed. I know there is always 'that guy' in the new release threads that states you could make your own instead of buying...but heh...seriously. You could buy a generic 'Spooky Tree' and do a half-ass face on it to the same level that is. They completely lack character to me.

They dont look too bad, so long as there are different options such as different tree species, I might be tempted to pick a few up.

These probably had the GW licensing lawyers worried, they're officially LoTR figures but of course 'tree men' aren't a LoTR-unique concept, so can anyone complain if these appear in WHFB Wood Elf armies etc? Although maybe no one is as strict on the whole 'LoTR and WHFB figures must never mix' thing any more.

I agree these need to come with lots of different options and styles and poses, coz a unit of identical trees would just look sad - walking trees aren't that difficult to scratch build, so GW better give us a good reason to buy these figures.

Hmm, how to use walking trees in 40K? I suppose Tzeentch might mutate a Daemon Prince into a tree shape just for fun...

Look good, hope they run different model options for the different types of ents they have in the rules.

Granted, not many of you lot play in Japan I'll bet, but the guy who manages the GW store near me recently made a big deal about how I'm not allowed to mix Fantasy and LoTR after I commented to my friend within earshot about how LoTR trolls would make better Chaos Trolls. He even implied by the way he said it that I wasn't allowed to mix the models at home, in my private games. Given what I've been able to see of this guy's character, I expect him to rigidly enforce the rule until GW mails him a personal letter explicitly telling him not to.

Mixing is even allowed at GTs now. You just can't get your army photographed if you win.

You better be able to mix, at least thats what our Rep told us we can do. A good portion of my VC army is LoTR figures, they just plain look better and more evil than the goofy DUR DUR figures GW has for Black Knights currently.

Although the new Ent looks like he's a slowed step child running around going DUR DUR a lot... so.. Hopefully its cheap and convertible.

What do you use for your Black Knights? I like the rules but can't stomach the models.

The guy who manages the GW store near you is an ignorant arse, and you can tell him I said so.

He is about 5 years out of date.

To confirm the facts you need only look at the last LotR official GT tournament pack where explicit permission is given for mixing of non-LotR parts with LotR parts on models. The only prohibition is on PHOTOGRAPHING such models by GW themselves - i.e. if a co-mixed army won "best army", they were prohibited by the licence from publishing photos of it in WD.

The 2009 pack has probably been published (or if not, will be soon - as the tournament is held on 29th Jan 2009) so, tell him to check it out and get with his own company's official policy.

Cheers

The knee joints are about the only bad part to the model.

Even with the simplistic design, they are quite obviously tree-men, unlike the WHFB treemen and treekin which can only be described as rubbish.

I'm sure some LOTR nut is working out a force of 200 odd ents for the War Of the Ring release to thrash the evil forces of Middle Earth.

Ents vs Mumakils is the face off I'd love to see.

My guess at pricing is £15 for a boxed set - in line with the plastic Troll.

If they put two trees in there for that price, count me in. If they make it one tree with a load of conversion fodder (as per the Troll) then sod 'em! I'd rather pay £17 or so for a lovely metal Ent from Magnificent Bear or from Thomarillion, than £15 for a rasonable placcy one from GW.

WoW gonna have to pick a few of these up. One maybe two for my WE in WFB and two for LOTR just to have em. Im also concerned about haveing different options in the box to give them each a different look. If its anything like the plastic troll there will be a good bit of options 3-4 heads, 4-6 arms, maybe some diffenrt legs but the torso will probaly be generic.

Hm. Can't say I'm a big fan. Maybe they'd look better with foliage. I guess I've just gotten used to GW's other style of Ents...

Well, as Huorns were just black-hearted trees, I think their box of tree terrain would probably do a better job. And with 3 trees in a box, it is better value too.
