Hey all,
I would like to start this thread by yelling "HELP!!!" to all of you.
now why would i do this you ask? I face a dilemma at the moment. You see, I am almost done painting my ~8k Witch Hunters army (have a couple of squads and some armour to paint, should take me no more than a couple of months), and I now feel the urge to start another army. Now this normally wouldn't be a problem, my issue is that i suddenly feel the urge to start something that i have never wanted to do in my life (before now obviously), start an Ultramarines army.
I don't know what it is, but I think that after all of these years of playing (possibly) the most obscure and un-played army out there, i feel the need to hop on a bandwagon and play the generic of the generics. It might also be that the Calgar and the FW UM Ven Dred are some of the coolest models out there (imo).
Either way, i would like to get your (the Dakka community as a whole) opinion on this radical and sudden change of heart on my part, and weather you guys think that i should start this army (and if i did, it would probably end up being all blinged out w/ FW stuff) or not (and please give actual reasons, not "Smurfs are the suxorz!!1!" or some such).
Thank you in advance for your input
BLARGAG!!!

Hell, if you're in the mood to try the army, go ahead and do it. It's not about OMG Smurfs are everywhere you are the suck on-line reactions. It's about the joy you get in playing, modelling and painting in this crazy hobby of ours. I too feel your pain, as after many years of being virulently anti-power armour, I succumbed to the lure of Salamanders when Codex: Armageddon was unleashed. The great thing about SM's is that there are so many kits and they're easy to collect as an army quickly. My Sallies was the largest force I ever assembled. Then I hit burn-out and sold everything up, now I'm returning for 5th edition with nothing. So starting from scratch with my latest army of choice, which every one insists is a horrible and sucky 5th eitiond army. I don't care though because they are going to be MY army.
So go for the Smurfs, you can always change to something else later and kep 'em backburnered as GW's always gonna have new smurfy things to promote.

Well think it over for at least a week. At some point or another I've had the urge to collect most races in 40k (except Chaos, Dark Eldar, or SoB) but then I've thought it over and decided against it. So by all means go for it but give it some thinking time.
