Sneaky Sniper Drone
|
I played a 1.5k game against my friend the other night, the map mainly consisted of clear, flat edges for about a foot, with a number of walls and wrecked vehicles in the middle areas. There were 3 objectives, one near the corner i ended up in, two near my opponent's corner.
I dont have my army list anymore, so this is from memory, if it ends up not adding up, disregard that, it added up in the game
HQ
Crisis Shas'el TL Flamer, Airburst Fragmentation Projector, HW Multi Tracker, HW Drone Controller, 2xShield Drones, Stim Injector
2x Shas'vre TL Flamer, MP, HW Multi Tracker, HW Drone Controller, 2x Gun Drones
Troops
Fire Warrior Squad 12
Fire Warrior Squad 10
Fire Warrior Squad 10
Elites
Crisis Team
Shas'vre-- TL MP, Positional Relay--- I took him alone just so i would have a Positional Relay on board 2nd turn
Crisis Team
Team Leader--TL Fusion Blaster, MP, HW Multi Tracker, HW Drone Controller, 2x Shield Drones
2x Shas'ui-- Fusion Blaster, MP, Multi Tracker
Fast Attack
Pathfinder Team 8

Heavy Support
Broadside Team

I'm pretty sure that's what mine was.
My friend's list, this is going to be less accurate of course.

Heavy Weapon Squad, 2 Heavy Bolters, 1 Auto Cannon
Heavy Weapon Squad, 3 Lascannons
Elites
2x Storm Trooper Squad, both with grenade launchers
Troops
2x Infantry Platoons with Junior Officer and 2 Squads each
Fast Attack
Hellhound
Sentinel Squad 3 units with Autocannons
Heavy Support
Basilisk w/ Indirect Fire
Leman Russ Battle Tank w/ lascannon and heavy bolters
I think that was it, If i left something out, forgive me.
Deployment
IG--outflanks the Sentinels, Leman russ and Hellhound prepare for flanking, Heavy Weapons prepare to move to a firing location, Infantry form up sections to move through ruins toward objectives, Storm Troopers follow for support
Tau-- I put my HQ and 3 man Crisis Squad into Reserve for Deep Strike, Fire Warriors begin near front lines, behind as much cover as i can, ready to move to the objective near me. Pathfinders near my deployment edge, 12 man FW's next to their fish. Broadsides and Hammerhead bring up the rear. I Scout move my devilfish out 6"
Turn One
IG--moves up, moves russ 6" and fire lascannon at Hammerhead, misses due to DP's 12" obscurity. Due to poor luck on scatters, mortars and basilisk take out 1 FW from each 10 man squad. He takes both Objectives close to him with a run this turn
Tau-- I move up, Get FW's into better cover and more blocked Los, I stop a turns movement from my Objective. I move Devilfish 6" and deploy my Pathfinders behind impassable terrain for LoS blocking from his flanking troops, I move my 12 man FW squad near the devilfish, Hammerhead Attempts to land on Impassable terrain for better LoS and shooting, fail my dangerous terrain and am immobilized on top of it. The hammerhead fires and misses, the to broadsides fire and wreck the leman russ.
Turn Two
IG-- Sentinels do not come in. Guardsmen and Stormtroopers continue to move up and dig in around the objectives. Basilisk misses, mortars take out 1 more FW. Hellhound moves around russ wreck and takes cover. HB's and Autocannon heavy weapon team moves along with hellhound. Lascannon Team move behind a wall and set up in windows.
Tau-- I use Positional Relay and roll a 2+ to bring in my HQ, i deep strike right behind the lascannon team, use the pathfinder's devilfish to reroll the scatter and land on target. I move up a FW team, move the other into the devilfish, keep one on an OBJ,and Slow but Purposeful my Broadsides. On to shooting. Pathfinders fire markerlights at a stormtrooper squad, get 4 hits. I use my stationary FW squad to fire 9 shots, increasing BS to 4 and reducing cover by 2(they had a 4+ cover), 3 down. Hammerhead fires submunitions at the same squad, increase BS to 5, scatters and deals 2 wounds to the squad. Pathfinder fires SMS at the lascannon squad, dealing no wounds. HQ unloads on lascannon squad, only 2 flamers are able to fire due to terrain and placement from deep striking, i deal 4 wounds leaving one lascannon, he fails his pinning test and passes his moral from 25 percent casualties.
Turn Three
IG-- still no sentinels-- moves up his flanking hellhound and infantry squad, moves to shooting, Basilisk and Mortars take out 3 pathfinders, Stormtroopers and Infantry holding the objective fire at FW's deal 2 wounds, Autocannon/HB squad fire at devilfish, one autocannon hits, but misses due to 12" obscurity. Hellhound places template on my HQ, deals I take 2 unsaved wounds allocated to my gun drones. I pass my moral on my pathfinders.
Tau-- I use PR to bring in my crisis team, I place near the hellhound, they scatter off table even with devilfish reroll, my opponent gets to place them anywhere, he places them way back in my corner. I keep everything stationary except the devilfish and broadsides, whom i SbP up, I move up to his flank and disembark, roughly 18 inches from my HQ. I open fire with my devilfish and FW's that just disembarked on his Autocannon/HB squad, theyre wiped out. Broadsides finally have LoS to the Basilisk; they fire and destroy it. FW's on the OBJ, the lone crisis suit, and the ones advancing near it open up on his infantry squad holding an OBJ, bringing it to 3 models, Hammer head fires at them, scatters off of them onto his infantry command squad nearby and takes out 2. My HQ fires at the Flanking infantry squad, obliterate it and overlapping flamers take out 2 units in his other infantry command. He passes all morale checks.
Turn Four
IG-- sentinels come in, he outflanks onto his right edge and comes in near my hammerhead. Mortars take out 4 FWs from the squad holding the OBJ, stormtroopers, infantry squad and command near the OBJ fire at the advancing FW squad and take out 3 of them. His lascannon fires, misses due to 12" obscurity, Sentinels fire at hammerhead, 2 hits on side armor, neither pierce armor. His hellhound fires at the HQ again and also manages to overlap my FW's, Takes out all of the drones and deals a wound to a shas'ui, also deals 3 wounds to my FW's, forcing morale. At end of shooting i fail morale on my HQ and the advancing FW squad, the FW's fall back off board, the HQ moves back 8 inches. I pass the other FW's
Tau-- I fail regroup test for my HQ, they fall further back. Broadsides SbP and finally get LoS on the Hellhound. The devilfish moves 6" over the hellhound ready to engage the mortars. my FW's on the flanking side move up, getting closer to the other OBJ. Broadsides take out the Hellhound, Crisis team destroys one and stuns one of the sentinels. My hammerhead gets lucky and gets a direct hit on his infantry squad near the open OBJ, takes out 5. FW's holding obj and the lone crisis fire at stormtroopers with the help of markerlights, taking them out. Devilfish takes out his mortars. The FW's on the flanking side take out his final lascannon
Ok up till now, I doubt all the killing is correct numbers and what not, the game was awhile ago, but i remember how the map was set up about now so here it is.
I have 5 FW's holding an OBJ, a lone crisis moving up, my HQ falling back, Broadside Team, Crisis team engaging sentinels near my edge, devilfish in the middle of his territory hunting infantry, 4 FW's taking the OBJ he used to own and a immobilized Hammerhead on elevated terrain.
He has an infantry command with 3 models left near the objective i just took on his side, on the other side of the wrecked hellhound, A 4 man Stormtrooper squad near my close OBJ, a infantry command with 3 models left holding his OBJ, 2 sentinels at my edge, and his HQ command squad near the OBJ i just took.
Turn Five, Where it all goes to hell.
IG-- nothing moves. He fires stormtroopers and infantry command at my FW's holding my OBJ, deals 3 wounds. His command platoon and infantry command move toward my FW's at his old OBJ but dont get LoS. Sentinels fire at the Crisis team, kill one of the shield drones. My FW squad on my OBJ fails morale and falls back 8" losing the OBJ.
Tau-- HQ finally makes morale, FW's fall back off board. Hammerhead takes out Stormtroopers with help of pathfinder's markerlights. FW's still on board move and fire at the infantry command taking out 1 model. Devilfish fires at the infantry command finishing it off. My crisis suits take out his Sentinels
We roll and get a 6th turn.
As of now, near the battlefield i have a devilfish, 4 FW's, a crisis suit, and Broadsides in range and Los. My hammerhead and pathfinders are out of LoS to what is left
My opponent has his HQ with officer and 2 gaurdsmen, and an infanty command with 2 models near an OBJ, but not in 3"
Turn Six
IG-- his HQ moves, rapid fires, and takes out my FW's. His infantry command moves towards the OBJ.
Tau-- I have no scoring units left so i have to table my opponent to win. The lone crisis suit fires TL MP at the infantry command, taking out the remaining 2 models, Devilfish moves and fires at his HQ, due to horrific luck in shooting, I hit and kill all but his Officer. And now, the final tragedy, I fire both Broadsides at the Officer. Despite being Twin Linked, only one hits(the first time both did not hit this game), it of course wounds with an instant death hit on his 2W. He goes to ground and makes his 6+ save, then passes his morale check. Since my HQ can only move 6 in shooting, it couldnt get LoS on the Officer.
We roll and the game ends a tie, him with only one model left on the field. If anythign doesnt add up, such as points costs or models killed and such, forgive my poor memory. This is pretty close to exactly what happened.
In retrospect, if I hadnt taken the rist on the Hammerhead, I probably would have won. A large portion of the fighting was out of its LoS.
