Alright, so my buddy recently ordered an IG army through ebay... settled outside of ebay, and it just arrived today. The problem is, he got slammed with an unexpected duty charge on it, the seller being from Canada, and us being located in USA. He's willing to pay, and will hopefully pick up his army from UPS today at 3, but that leads me to a very important question about a pending order with MiniWarGaming.com

Being a canadian store, will I also get hit with an unexpected duty charge in order to retrieve my package, or being an actual store, do they charge those taxes up front for me? I need to know this, because I'm planning on pretty much draining my account here, so if there are extra hidden duty fees, I suddenly can't afford as much as I wanted to. Not only that, but it would be a real inconvenience to have to (with no car) go down to USPS and pick up the package I expected them to send to my door step. That would suck.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any helpful info. Eagerly waiting a reply for this (sale starts monday!)

I've ordered numerous times from Canada, Germany, UK, Spain, Poland and Russia and never been hit with any duty charges. I think getting hit with international duties is a crap shoot, based on how much you order and how the product is labeled (toys, gifts, etc.), which you have no control over. I know this isn't a ton of help, but that's my experience from the 11 yrs I've been ordering dollies from around the world.

Its all a matter of how the sender registers the items being sent. Depending on the laws or just the personal choice of the seller, they may have marked it as a commercial sale, which can incur a duty, as opposed to just being a personal shipment.

Without knowing the specifics of US import duties and tarifs, I can guarantee you that no store will add them onto your purchase price, because they're nothing to do with the store.

Customs duties are applied (or not, as applicable) by your own country's Customs office when the package arrives at the border.

And they're not really 'hidden fees'... you should be able to find out what's applicable through your own country's Customs Office website.
