I got all five games on special a few months ago for like $13, but I've only played the first one.

Chrysalids STILL make me about crap my pants (seriously, I jumped a little when I saw one for the first time in 13 years).

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

It's a great game! It could seriously use a graphics (and sound) upgrade though.

I loved playing that game. Usually I always kept some Laser Rifles in my squad as a secondary weapon (even when I was toting Plasma). Just for the sake of shooting away scenery/walls without ammo concerns. I've surprised loads of aliens that way.

Agreed on the laser rifles. Infinite ammo for the win.

Ever recruit a soldier who had all crap stats, give him a grenade with a 0 timer (and nothing else) and just run him into small areas with aliens? Hilarity.

I also hate having a stunned alien that's in your backpack wake up.

Played a game on the second hardest difficulty with a never ever load over policy. I used to take a fire team with lasers that saturated sarea with auto-fire. Took down a lot of aliens that way, it was an excellent way to get new rookies enough stat increases to be useful.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Well, guys, you should try part three from 'UFO'

It's Xcom, but beter graphs.

Just like X it gets hard at a certain point beyond reasonable, but that's the fun part isn't it?

Lol I could never do that... maybe thats why I had trouble with the game... I'd name all my characters after people I knew haha

Actually I never did that kind of stuff either back then.

I just complained about the large percentage of rubbish recruits they were sending me and fired them!

But I realise now that in the greater fight vs the uncompromising aliens sacrifices need to be made. And because these losers actually signed up as X-com soldiers (and thought themselves qualified), it would be wrong for me not to give them a chance to strike back against those nasty aliens.

Using them as the first person going around corners would also be a good one (not with a live grenade in this instance but two proper troopers standing just outside the door).

Guy walks in and might get gacked by overwatch fire from alien, alien's out of action points, troopers walk in and gun him down!
