So a lot of us don't have a way to type the currency symbols of other countries, so I was thinking a small drop down menu ala the smilies menu, with (at least) the more common ones would be a great addition to the site.

The idea is that it takes extra effort and time to write properly, and they’d rather save the time. If you can still be understood, what’s the harm? While most of the time a sloppy post CAN be understood, the use of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is generally seen as respectable and desirable on most forums. It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

Although this is a good suggestion I am hesitant for a couple of reasons. First, There is already a lot of clutter around the post editing box which I want to reduce not expand. The other thing keeping me away from it is that I have not heard anyone else request it. Does anyone else think it is in a very useful feature? We'll never get as many symbols as somewhere like : http://www.xe.com/symbols.php so I would be inclined to just tell people to bookmark that URL instead. Thanks for the feedback.

In my professional typing, I'm perfectly content with GBP vs. USD vs. Euro; I probably wouldn't use a menu of symbols, as it's far slower but doesn't substantially improve the clarity.
