Scenario: A group of upstart Menite priests have taken refuge in an old abandoned temple located in a small Khadoran town. Seeking to prevent a riot/uprising from these notoriously violent priests and to make an example out of them, the Queen dispatches Kommander Sorscha to publicly execute the holy zealots, (Orsus was on vacation). The Harbinger of Menoth has a vision of the priests and finds one of them to be important, she leaves with a detachment of troops to defend the temple and its priests.
The Menoth player must defend against the Khador attack. Khador must slay the priests located in the large temple.
Setup and 1st turn:
Menoth sets up in a defensive formation in front of the church, the only way in is to smash through the menoth forces. A temple flameguard unit defends the entrance way to the temple which is located up a hill and around the rear of the building. The deliverers and redeemer jack are to the left side of the field, behind cover with the redeemer somewhat exposed. Harbinger is dead center in front of the building with her other 2 jacks a few inches to her right. Choir is behind the two jacks helping to defend the right flank. Khador sets up with mortars located to the left side of the field in some ruins, Sorscha located behind the devastator with IFPs to the left of her in the center of the field. Berzerker and greylords are somewhat behind a farm building to the right side of the field, forgot the Manhunter's advanced deployment so he sits between the mortars and sorscha. the field if about 30" square.
Khador goes first and moves the greylords+zerker around the outside edge of the farm building. 1 focus to the devastator so he can run 6" with sorscha strolling behind. IFPs jog along side them while the manhunter hooks left towards the redeemer's flank. The mortars fire but are not within range to do any damage. Sorscha casts fog of war and ends turn.
Menoth doesnt do a whole lot except shore up the formation a bit. chior casts safe passage for the revenger and vanquisher.
Turn TWO:
Khador advances with a focus point on the devastator. greylords and zerker are now coming around the right side of the farm building trying to get in flanking position. IFPs move up with sorscha while the manhunter hooks towards the center of the field (trying to poke around for a weak spot in the defense). Mortar crews move up their measly few inches. Sorscha casts razor wind at a deliverer but is not close enough. End turn with a fog of war up and IFPs in shield wall.
Menoth starts by firing a few skyhammer rounds from the deliverers, both at the IFPs, both miss, both fail to do any damage (thank you sheild wall). Ends turn with shielding ward up.
Turn THREE:
Khador advances a few inches with the devastator, sorscha in tow, and IFPs (almost within charge range). Zerker and greylords have moved to the edge of the farm building and are about 14" away from the right flank with the two jacks and the chior. Manhunter heads towards the right flank behind sorscha and her battlegroup. Mortars must move up again zzzz... Sorscha hits a deliverer with razor wind and drops him. End turn with shield wall and fog up.
Menoth fires with all deliverers at the IFPs. All shots miss and all shots fail to do any damage, exploding all around the IFP unit. Redeemer even fires at them and is ineffective. Menoth lines up a charge with revenger/vanquisher and moves the temple flameguard down the ramp from around the backside of the church, slightly behind the harbinger.
Turn FOUR:
One focus to the Devestator, who runs almost into base to base contact with the vanquisher. Sorscha trails behind, casting razor wind at the harbinger which does nothing due to the amount of unused focus she has. Greylords move and put two ice cages on the chior. Zerker moves towards the two jacks and chior. IFPs advance to the left of the devestator with barely enough space to slip by and charge into the harbinger next round. Mortars advance again, trying to get within range of something more than a couple deliverers. Manhunter moves to the right side of sorsha, in line of sight of the jack's flanks. round ends with shield wall and fog of war.
Menoth sticks three focus on the revenger and two on the vanquisher. Chior casts infuse, revenger charges the devestator, boosting damage and gaining a second attack. Hits (obviously) and rolls really high, dishing out ten damage to my devestator OUCH! damage starts on slot 2 and almost knocks out slot three. Second attack does nothing. Vanquisher boosts damage and gains a second attack. first attack does three damage to row six and second attack does one damage to row five. deliverers and redeemer all fire on the IFPs and a whole bunch of misses and a whole bunch of low damage rolls. Temple Flameguard charge into my IFPs knocking out a single soldier. The Harbinger casts cataclysm :( on the IFP who is about a quarter inch away from sorsha. My IFPs are about 5" away from her at the time. THe cataclysm knocks out all of my IFPs except a trooper and a standard. Sorscha eats some damage, bringing her down to 15hp. End of turn four with Harbinger using her feat to try and kill the IFPs, sorscha, and my manhunter. We didnt realize until we kept reading the feat that she needs LOS for it to work.
Turn Five:
Two focus to the devastator. Sorscha pops feat to freeze the all the menoth units in place, then casts tempest just behind the two jacks fighting the devastator. The spell knocks out a couple of the choir members, deals a couple more points to the revenger but none to the vanquisher, also knocks both jacks down. It was our understanding that if a jack is knocked down, then it must spend an action on its next activation to stand back up. Sorscha then moves out of LOS of the harbinger. Devestater moves into base to base contact with the vanquisher and revenger and using rain of death causing a measly six damage to the revenger and three to the vanquisher, horrible damage rolls. Devestator then boosts damage on one attack and gains an extra attack Which proceeds to pummel the revenger with another eleven damage shearing off his shield and knocking out most of his right arm, and movement boxes in the process. The manhunter Charges the flank of the revenger and does a massive twelve damage, destroying the jack. Mortars open fire on the Temple flameguard unti and automatically hits due to the freeze. A single shot knocks out all of the unit save one. Second mortar shot takes out two frozen deliverers. Turn ends with nobody in LOS with the harbinger.
Menoth starts off allocating one focus to the redeemer (who is not frozen as he is on the far left flank of the deliverers). Chior using warding song and deliverers fire some shots at sorscha but cause no damage. The redeemer runs full steam towards my mortars. End of turn.
Turn Six:
Khador allocates no focus. Devestator is still in his defensive shell and absorbing hits, stalling until the zerker and move up and help him deal with the harbinger. IFP makes an attack against the temple flamguard but does not kill. The manhunter chips some pieces off of the vanquisher’s armor, dealing four damage. Sorscha casts wind rush three times, sprinting towards the advancing redeemer, then charges to close the distance. Turn ends after sorscha puts five damage on the redeemer’s rocket arm.
Menoth allocates two focus to the devastator and casts a spell that I can remember on the temple flameguard soldier that boosts attack. Harbinger attacks the Manhunter in melee but only causes two damage, leaving him at one. Vanquisher attacks the devastator with an extra swing and boosted damage but causes only a few points of damage. The redeemer jack takes a shot at sorscha but misses due to her 20 defense rating from windrush. Turn ends without any more action.
Turn Seven:
Sorscha is too far away to allocate focus, so she saves it all to gain extra attacks and damage boosts on each. The attacks are good, taking off the redeemer’s rocket arm and disabling his movement with only two attacks. Sorscha then moves away and gets halfway across the field with another windrush, taking no damage from the redeemer’s melee swing. The manhunter attacks the harbinger and gives her six damage on the first swing and five on the second. The zerker charges the harbinger’s flank but misses with both attacks. The devastator Bulldozes his way through the vanquisher and manhunter so that he can deliver a rain of death to the harbinger putting her down with nine points of damage. The battle is forfeit by the menoth player leaving a crippled redeemer, three choir members, a half dead vanquisher, and two deliverers on the field.
Long game, and neither of us knew all the rules so we made a lot of mistakes. He didn’t realize that he could use focus to pump his caster’s damage and we didn’t read about her feat well enough. It seems that the Harbinger has A LOT of power, especially against infantry plus she can be difficult to hit because you have to make command checks to hit her, and if you don’t use all of your focus, then she could have as much armor as my devastator. It seems that you just need to be able to get her in good positions to use the abilities. We started the game at three and ended at seven.

I made sure that sorscha never got closer than 7 inches of the harbinger and was behind the devestator most of the time. This was partially due to my IFPs beind in the way of her, but I was weary of getting sorscha into combat with the harbinger as she is 107pts and sorscha is only 70, and she doesnt seem to be too powerful in melee. I figured, the second I got close to the harbinger, he would charge and cataclysm. Now that I think about, he could have taken shots at sorscha, maybe he was worried about the higher def. Not that he ever hit the IFPs though.
