My FLGS alternates between 40K/WFB and WM/H, so it looks like it'll be in my best interests to make an army.

I'm not really familar with the game.

Looking over the pictures, I like the miniatures from Skorne best - in particular the Rhinodon, Titans and Praetorian Ferox.

What sort of army could I base off of those models? What would a good Warlock to lead them be?

Any other information I should know starting Skorne?

All those things are really good on their own and making an army is really dependent on what you like and want your army to do as most things in hordes(unlike 40k & fantasy) are usable.

Some things to consider.

Are you thinking beast heavy or infantry heavy?

Also consider the various warlocks.

Morghoul: Finesse fighter.
Hexeris: Caster.
Makeda: Commander/Fighter
Xerxis: Fighter, but really really slow.
Zaal: Soul token/infantry caster.
Mordikaar: Denial/Void spirit caster
epic Makeda: Supreme Infantry Commander
epic Morghoul: Almost cheating.

I'm thinking beast heavy. I don't really want to paint many more infantry than what I already have on-going.

If you going Beast heavy and play 500 pts or less, then take Morghoul.

Beast heavy is then Hexeris. Makeda and Xerxis are the infantry locks, Morghul is more of a assassin than beast lock and has the lowest fury.

Hexeris is a well rounded caster, who can with the help of pain givers and his soul slave spell, run a beast heavy list quite fine. Still you should take unit of line infantry to take advantage of death bringer.

Rhinodon fits well with task to clear infantry and cannoneer job is to bring some ranged support along. The rest of the list can then be crafted to suit your local metagame and personal fancies.

So how does this sound for starting at 500 points?

Hexeris
Rhinodon
Rhinodon
Titan Cannoneer
4 Praetorian Ferox

Comes out to 496 points.

I dont play Skorne, nor do I play against them alot, but I can try and help some.

Hexeris is a pretty decent caster and high fury, so beast heavy should work out just fine. His feat can be pretty nasty.

The Rhinodon is one of my favortie beast, but it's claw attacks hit with the P+S of a light warbeast, so it's tail and horn for the charge is what you have to use. Amuck is a great animus, and he's fury 4 so you can force 3 more times.

What I would do is drop one Rhinodon, and add in a Cyclops Shaman, and another Ferox. This would leave you with 15 pts, but the extra mobility of the Shaman work well with Hexeris, and it's ability to cast both the Rhinodon's and Titan's animus for only 1 fury make him well worth it.

Take it with a grain of salt. YMMV. I just think the Shaman is a great addition to the Skorne and is a great model. Most people just seem to over-look him though.

Sometimes you just have to let em' go...

You are going to have trouble winning with that list as there are so few moving pieces. The scenarios are going to be hard and so is keeping your caster safe from assassination.

You have very few combos in that list and skorne is living and winning by the combos. I would drop the other rhino and replace him with a infantry unit, probably swordsmen with a ancestral guardian. That would give you a more balanced army.

Well, I usually include one large Beast, Krea, Drake, and Paingivers. This allows some nice combos.
Gudrun and Agonizer are the best solos.

Add in some paingivers. I personally would swap out one beast for a Basilisk Krea and a min unit of paingivers. They'll make a world of difference.

I agree with Wuestenfix's assessment. A Krea, 1 heavy, & paingivers form the core of every skorne force I play.

The object of a game is to win. The *point* of a game is to have fun. Never confuse the two.
