I played a buddy of mine yesterday. He plays Orks, and tends to take a good mix of things and always has the strong units (Skinrot, Nob Bikes and Lootas). We played at 1850pts, his list looked like this:
Warboss: Bike, Cybork, Attack Squig,
PK
9x Nob Bikes: Painboy, 3x
PK, all unique wargear
20x Sluggas: Nob w/
PK, Battlewagon with Deffrolla
20x Sluggas: Nob w/
PK, Battlewagon with Deffrolla
15x Lootas
15x Kommandos: 2x Burna, Skinrot
Killpoints: 8
He wanted to play against my Dual Lash, so I bought my standard and extremely boring list:
Prince:
MoS, Lash, Wings
Prince:
MoS, Lash, Wings
3x Terminators: 3x Combimelta
3x Terminators: 3x Combimelta
3x Terminators: Heavy Flamer, Combiflamer
7x Plague Marines: 2x Melta, Personal Icon, Champ w/fist, Rhino
7x Plague Marines: 2x Melta, Personal Icon, Champ w/fist, Rhino
7x Plague Marines: 2x Melta, Champ w/fist, Rhino
2x Obliterators
2x Obliterators
2x Obliterators
Killpoints: 14 (yikes!)
Mission rolled was Annihilation with Dawn of War deployment. I won deployment and setup a prince and unit of Plage Marines in their rhino on the rght side of the table, about 10" from the middle of the table. My opponent placed his Nob Bikes and Boss opposing them. He failed to steal the initiative so I went first.
My turn 1: My army, aside from the Termies, all rolled onto the table. I brought 2 units of
PMs on in their rhinos on the extreme right side of the table, with the 6 Oblits and other prince coming on to the left of the first unit of
PMs. The first prince moved into range for Lash, and the
PM rhino moved to get behind the Oblits and string its unit out so Skinrot couldn't charge more than 1 unit of Oblits at a time. I lashed the Nob bikes and clumped them up so all of their front wheels were in the center of a huge circle, then dropped 6 plasma templates on the unit. I killed 5 bikes and left every other model with 1 wound, then lashed them 9" into some ruins wit the second prince to force dangerous terrain. One more dropped to dangerous terrain. My turn ended with his Nb Bikes crippled, in terrain (no turbo boost and more checks to get out of it) and out of their threat radius.
His turn 1: Lootas ran onto the table and tried to get into cover, but horrible difficult terrain rolls and a 1 on their run roll left them sitting on the edge of a ruined building. the Battlewagons rolled on side by side and made straight for my line. The Nobs rolled out of cover with no casualties and made for my closest prince. No shooting fro mthe Orks since everything was moving as fast as it could to my lines. Some harmless fire from the Bikes at my prince did nothing and his turn ended.
My turn 2: I rolled a unit of Melta termies and the unit of Flamer termies in on deepstrike. The Meltas fell behind the battlewagons and the flamer termies dropped safely behind the 2 units of
PMs on my right flank thanks to an icon. I put them there to demolish Skinrot with as little dificulty as possible when he decided to pop up. I lashed the Bikes again and killed the unit with 2 plasma templates (one of my Oblits overheated twice in a row and failed his save so he died
lol). My first unit of
PMs moved up to melta one of the battlewagon, but did nothing. A unit of Oblits shot multimeltas at the same wagon and blew it apart, killing 7 Orks in the mess. Combined bolter fire coming from my rhinos and other
PMs brought the rest of the unit down. The termies then shot their combimeltas at half range to the side of the other battlewagon and blew it off the table, with 4 Orks dieing in the explosion from the unit inside. My second lash pulled those orks together and then I dropped my 2 remaining plasma templates on them, leaving about 8 Orks and the Nob after cover saves were taken.
His turn 2: Skinrot and his unit came on and made straight for the back of my 2 Rhinos (which I forgot to move on my turn, DOH!) on the right flank. He charged into them and blew one Rhino up, stripping the other of its bolter and immobilizing it. The Lootas shot at a prince but rolled a 1 for their shots and the rpince saved all of the wounds. His remaining unit of Sluggas turned towards my melta termies that blew their ride up and shot then charged in. I lost 2 Termies on the charge, but killed 4 Orks and won combat. The Orks failed their test and ran, but I failed to catch them.
My turn 3: The other melta termie came in and I placed them in a very risky position (at this point the game was won and I was having some fun

)and they scattered off the table (doh!). The flamer termies moved around the rhinos and unleashed their flamers into Skinrot, killing the entire unit. The Lash princes flew forward and lashed the Lootas into the open. Bolter fire killed the remaining few slugga boyz, and then the plasma death came raining in on the Lootas. There was still 1 left (somehow) after 5 plasma templates, so my lone remaining melta terminator rapidfired his bolter and killed him. My turn 3 ended with his entire army dead and my only casualties a Rhino and the termie unit that scattered off the table.
I felt bad because Lash is not fun to play against at all, and it did its job really well in this game (and capitalized on my opponent's mistake of deploying his bikes while knowing I would go first... had he left them in reserve and turbo-boosted on turn 1, he wouldn't have lost as many of them though I'm not sure exactly how big a difference it would have made). We both enjoyed the game though, and the last remaining melta terminator is now nicknamed Rambo for somehow living through the entire game. I usually prefer to not play Lash in friendly games and kit my princes with
MoN and Warptime or Gift instead, as well as only take 1 large unit of termies with
MoN (turning the army into a Deathguard army for friendly games) but I pretty much only own the models in the lsit, so its hard to alter the list a huge amount from game to game.
His list is not bad at all though, and I think had the deployment been different from Dawn of War, it would have been a much more difficult game for me.
DoW gives me a lot more distance to bring guns to bear without any real pressure form his units until at least the 3rd turn of the game, so I can really ease my way into things and take my time delaing with the big threats. We're going to get a rematch on using something other than
DoW deployment (and hopefully an objective mission... it seems like every gmae I play gets rolled as Annihilation these days) in the next few weeks.
