I have eyed the game for some time, and recently found a shop not too far away that has a strong community. I am looking to start a Hordes army, as I think they look the coolest and am having quite a bit of trouble picking between Legion of Everblight and Circle of Orboros.

I like both of the model ranges, and they both seem to have the playstyle I prefer. I look for armies that are fast, hard hitting, but don't usually take a hit that well (and great looking models are a must). I have only taken a glance through the rulebook, a brief read through of the demo sheets, and the blurbs on the factions in the catalog. I don't know much about the game, so any advice on literally anything would be helpful.

Thanks guys!

Well, you've chosen the two most popular factions from HORDES. Both are quite powerful and fun to play.

It's really going to come down to personal aesthetic preference I think. Do you prefer natural themes and elementals, or do you prefer alien and mutated models?
Wolves or land-sharks? Humans and cannibalistic barbarians or dark elves and abominations?

As far as playstyle, both are a bit similar. Both survive on their Defense, and both are lacking in the Armor department (in general). Both can get the drop on their opponents (first strike), but when either is attacked in force, they tend to crumble.

Circle is the high magic, high mobility, we-like-terrain-so-much-we-bring-our-own faction. Our beasts tend toward the melee persuasion (and have multiple attacks and chain attacks to facilitate this), with some magic flavor thrown in.
Legion is the high ranged attack, high mobility, we-ignore-your-defenses faction. Their beasts are more balanced between melee and ranged attacks, but lack the ability to use some of the special Power Attacks.

If you remain undecided between the two, your best bet is to see what everyone else is playing, and choose the one least played.

Circle have a bunch of little tricks and Legion has one or two big ones. They are both good armies so play with whatever looks cooler to you.

2012- stopped caring
Nova Open 2011- Orks 8th Seed---(I see a trend)
Adepticon 2011- Mike H. Orks 8th Seed (This was the WTF list of the Final 16)
Adepticon 2011- Combat Patrol Best General

Hmmm. It's really a toss up when it comes to looks. I like both for different reasons, even down to the esthetic of what they are (bestail woodsmen vs. mutated dragon elf things).

Thanks for your input so far. From what I understand magic plays an extremely important part in the game, so maybe you could give me an idea of the characters and how their spells and abilities effect them and their allies.

Check out this site -> Battle College.
You'll find a nice summary of all of the models and their abilities there as well as a few basic tactics and combinations.

I'll give you a quick rundown of Circle:
Kaya - Melee Assassin, works very well with warbeasts, some support for infantry, Feral theme
Epic Kaya - Melee Assassin, works extremely well with warbeasts, minimal support for infantry, Feral theme

Krueger - Spell Slinger, works well with warbeasts (especially woldwardens), excellent infantry support, Lightning Storm magic theme, easiest to learn
Epic Krueger - Denial and Control, have not tried this guy out yet, Wind Storm magic theme

Baldur - Denial and Control, works very well with Elemental Constructs, good infantry support, Earth magic theme

Kromac - Anti-Horde Meat Grinder/Denial, works well with warbeasts, excellent infantry support, suffers slightly against Warmachine, Tharn/Cannibal Theme

Morvahna - Spell Slinger, minimal warbeast support, near-perfect infantry support, Life/Death magic theme, hardest to learn

Mohsar - Spell Slinger/Denial, have not tried this guy out yet, Desert/Everything-is-expendable Theme
