hi as the title says ive collected for quite a few years but have never played 40k apart from a few learner games at GW. Ive decided i want to actually give the gaming side a try and this is where hopefully some of you guys can help.

im a pretty slow painter and have never converted or used green stuff and i like the close combat side of armies so im looking for an army with a lowish model count, close combat orientated and doesnt need any converting.

I was thinking maybe black templars? i like the look of those but do they need any converting? i dont mind purchasing stuff off forge world to save me the hassle of converting. Thanks for your help

Welcome!I don't really know which force to suggest, sorry I couldn't help.(well maybe a nob biker list but that would take converting.)

If you like HTH you might also think about a TMC tyranid army. I have a buddy at my FLGS that only uses 30'ish models or so...and for 'nids that tiny!!!

As for the templars you don't need to convert much at all if you buy their torso box. But the "anti-conversion" thing won't last too long. I was the same way.

Oh, and welcome to dakka.

i thought about tyranids but dont you have to use green stuff for certain biomorphs like reinforced chitin and toxic miasma?

looking at the forge world stuff tho i do really like the black templars stuff. Are they an easy enough army for total beginners?

Marines are the best for beginners. Solid, dependable and a 3+ doesn't hurt.

As for HAVING to greenstuff nearly every tourney (which are not many mind you) and all the game stores (which are quite a few. Whenever I go out of town I allways make it a point to stop by the FLGS) generally state that if its a biomorph that comes on the sprue you should attach it. If there is no piece for it you just need to be clear with your opponent first.

I just started a nid army and I am NOT going to model all the biomorphs on until I have it pretty well tested and hammered out what I want. For now, I just sit back and say..."Look theose 5 warriors with no arms?!?!? They all have ST. Is that ok?" Noone has been a douche and said no yet.
