Hello everyone. After starting up a new project I figured I would do something I haven't done with my previous projects... start a blog on it. I figured this would help me in a couple ways:

#1 - To help give myself goals and possible deadlines so that I may actually be able to finish a project for once.
#2 - Show off my [not that] great painting skills.

Anyway, this project has started off of two Black reach box sets and, after much thinking and pondering, decided to take up the ever challenging Imperial fists paint scheme. Why I chose this scheme I will never know seeing as I really am not that great a painter, but it was a challenge I was not going to back down from. My ultimate plan is to have a decent 1500 list with 3-4 Dreadnaughts, 3 tac squads, and fill in the rest with termies. Still thinking about an exact 1500 list but that will come later.

Enough chatter...on to the minis! Keep in mind that these pictures were taken with a webcam and not an actual digital camera so they may not give the models justice, but as far as I can tell the pics turned out quite well.

To start out here are some basic marines:

I will admit, they need more work, and they also need basing. The one in the middle is my first test model which turned out alright.......

Taking a step up to something I can actually be proud of, some terminators:

I'm still a bit unsure of the terminator's paint scheme, but I am overly satisfied as to how they turned out.

Next up, a dreadnought.

I just absolutely love how this guy turned out.

Well thats it for actual painted models, but there is one last thing. After seeing a few pics pop up on here and a few other sites of a rather well converted ironclad, I decided to take an idea from the conversion and make my own. The result is this guy:

Its not really complete as I plan on adding some more bits as 'extra armor' and possibly some hunter killer missles, but that is the arm I plan on using for the model. In case it isn't that obvious, the hammer bit is made out of a lego block and a k'nex piece stuck on the melta arm from the black reach set. Not the greatest conversion, but it does get the point across.

Anyway, thank you for cruising through this blog and checking out my stuff. I'll try and update this with some more pics each week. Let me know what you think or what I may be able to improve on. Thanks for your time!

Looking good so far. One thing...Yellow NEEDS atleast a wash. Otherwise everything just blends together and you loose all detail. Might try a 1:1 wash of brown. But looking cool and I like your idea for the hammer. Looks good.

What paints are you using? I only ask because I'm working on a Fists army as well and I just want to know what other Fist creators use?

It looks great though. Keep up the good work!

Just normal GW paints, nothing special. However sometimes its better to water them down a little bit for painting (just a little).

I meant like, specifically what colors you use to prime, base, and then coat.

The Fists I'm painting I prime white, base with vomit brown, then apply a few coats of golden yellow then touch up with a wash of gryphion syphia(spelling?). Though I did spray paint a squad with some Krylon Fusion yellow and those came out way lighter than my hand painted figures.

Oh ok, gotcha.

I just prime them white, and then put on a few coats of sunburst yellow. Afterwards I water down some brown and paint in the detail to get it to show out more.

Honestly I'm still a a bit new at advanced painting so my method may not be that great.

I see. Well, the watered down brown looks really good. And I like your use of sunburst yellow. On some of my Fists I highlighted some areas with sunburst to just add more color. Though the Krylon spray paint has a very similar pigment(?) as the sunburst.

Regardless, nice work. I can't wait to see more. I'll post a few pics of mine if you'd like to see what mine look like.

Alright, small update here, been busy with school and work.

Finished: Terminator Squad 1 and Tactical Squad 1

To help seperate the combat squads the guns are painted red and black. So far have the equivilant of one black reach box painted...which is a pretty good achievment for me thus far.

Someday I'll figure out how to apply the proper lighting in photos....

Looking good so far. You might want some Scab Red or a similar color to shade the red bits (Eagles, cloth, etc). At the moment, they really pop.

Finished: Ironclad Dreadnought

Needs some touch ups, but for now it is at least table top quality, and I can move on to something new.

The lego hammer is a lol. It wouldn't be so bad if you filed off the studs, so we could at least PRETEND its not a lego. But very nice imperial fists, I don't mean to offend. Very creative.

Haha, no offense taken at all. I actually considered that, but after you take off the studs all you are left with is a big featureless block. So I figured I'd leave the studs on, but I at least shaved off the little 'lego' symbols.

Rhino looks great. Is that drybrushing to get the reddish pattern rising from the bottom?

"From the fires of Betrayal unto the blood of revenge we bring the name of Lorgar, the Bearer of the Word, the favored Son of Chaos, all praise be given to him. From those that would not heed we offer praise to those who do, that they might turn their gaze our way and gift us with the Boon of Pain, to turn the Galaxy red with the blood, and feed the hunger of the Gods."

Not quite. To get the effect there I actually took some redish brown color, really wet down the paint, and just brushed it on from the bottom up. It seeped into the cracks and made a sort of rust/streak effect at the same time.

Edit: Re-posting some stuff that I have done already in an attempt of better picture taking techniques.

Tac squad 1. It still seems that my webcam is still holding me back on pic quality here.

The red on all the wings and guns in the tac and terminator squads is blood red, for the red wings on the rhino and dreads I painted blood red then went over it with some watered down gore red.
