Liberated Grot Land Raida

Hi all,
Recently, my FLGS had a sale of Rackham stuff. Amongst them was a Titanic dragon of Aarklash , a huge kit and one that I've always considered to bloody expensive. But, with 30%off +some coupons (winning tourneys is good ), I had him at almost half price, so, I couldn't resist buying the model. This log will be about assembling the dragon and building a rider, since the model doesn't come with one. Also, there no really convenient place to add a rider (huge spikes on the back will see to that), so I'll have to greenstuff a saddle that fits on somewhere, and then design (read: kitbash) a model to make a suitable dragon rider.
It's a resin kit (thank god, pinning this sucker would be impossible if it were metal), so after a nice soapy bath, it was a dream to assemble. The onyl damage was a bit of horn that had broken off (easily greenstuffed); no bubbles, no cracks, just nicely detailed resin. All the parts were pinned for safety, just to make sure. The pic of the unassembled dragon isn't mine, it was assembled before I had a chance to take a pic (honestly!). If it belongs to someone over here, just challenge me for ownership.
Anyway, enough rambling, here's some pics.

Wow. I'd never seen those dragons before! They look sweet. The Titanic dragon is beastly FTW. that second last photo of the ice dragon is really in need of some modelling putty to fill in the gaps!!
So how much does it cost half price?

$8 - $20

118 euro; it wasn't entirely half price, since it costs 215 euro without price reduction, but close enough .

I can see why you were hesitant in the first place! But anyway, all you need 2 remember with gs is to keep a plentiful supply of water beside you, and use it with and on all the tools you'll be using.

Here found the size comparison. Same size as the Titanic dragon, but only cost $10 USD.
*edit : sorry CommissarKhaine sort of semi hijacked your thread >< but thought dakka would appreciate
some additional good finds :x

IRPurple: at 118 it's a steal; it's a beautiful, huge model, very nicely detailed. Also, since I have all the GW HE dragons (except those from the eighties), this one was a logical progression. besides, it's much nicer then the FW dragon, adn cheaper to boot.
I've been experimenting with saddle options, and the High Elf Hero's rider legs seem to fit reasonably well, I'll just have to sculpt a support thingy and then toss on lots of bits. I've got some cold one knight stuff lying around as well; the champion's torso would make a nice dragon rider torso I believe.
Lunahound: you could stop posting pics then if you really were sorry . On a more serious note, there's some nice dragons in there. Yours isn't as big as the titanic one though; I'll see if i can get a pic of him next to a bike. Or maybe compared to the regular HE dragon... The thing is huge!

Did some work on the rider today. He consits of the HE hero kit riding legs, with a greenstuff saddle (paprerclip for frame and sturdiness), a cold one champion toso, and the EH bare head from the her kit, cut to fit in the cold one rider armour. His left arm is just a silver helm arm I had lying around, it will be obscured by a shield anyway. I'm not sure what to do with the weapon hand; right now, I'm leaning towards him jabbing down with a lance or spear. Suggestions are welcome .
The saddle needs some more bits and greenstuffing added, but the basic shape is there. I'm considering adding a rein to his left hand from the saddle, but I won't be attaching it to the dragon since I want to be able to use the dragon seperately and unridden.

For a decent dragon for warhammer I suggest you try:
Reaper Miniatures Kyra and Lavarath
Here is a modelling blog, note that the wings are converted and not the original.
http://www.reapermini.com/TheCraft/20
From a sizing question on the Reaper boards:
http://www.reapermini.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=22987&pid=339730&mode=threaded&start=
Mine isn't assembled, so these might be a little off, but. . .
Standing, base to shoulder (straight line): 3" (a little more)
Length (base of nose to point where tail turns back toward the body): 5"
Length (measured tip of nose to tip of tail): 13 1/2"
Wingspan (most probable width): 3"
(It actually looks much bigger than these measurements sound. Imagine a solid 3" x 5" index card, that stands about 5" tall, and you probably have a good idea of how much space Kyra + Lavarath occupy).

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
