The Setup



The Eldar won the roll to choose deployment and elected to go first. The Guardian squad closest to camera has the missile launcher.

The Tau set up in 2 main firebases.

The one on the left at the concrete emplacement had the firewarriors with carbines just out of LOS behind it. A squad of suits (Elites) and the squad of kroot completed the forces out of LOS behind the emplacement.

The other squad of firewarriors with pulse rifles (in the trees) had the support of the HQ suit squad who were behind the trees.

The lone broadside covered both squads from its vantage point on top of the bunker at the top right of the picture.

The Tau player (Troy Tempest on Dakka) rolled to steal the initiative and failed.
The Eldar player (Brother Bartius) heaved a sigh of relief as this meant one less turn of shooting on the aspect warriors run towards the tau line.

Eldar Turn One

With everything deployed it was straight on the psychics. The farseer attached to the scorps cast fortune on his squad and guide on the Avengers.

Both squads then advanced towards the firebase at the emplacement directly across the field from them. The Scorps chose to run in the shooting phase where as the Avengers elected to shoot at the 2 firewarriors that they could see at the top of the emplacement and found out they were an inch or two out of range. With the 2 guardian squads electing to advance towards the hills to get a better firing position and running as well, this finished the Eldar turn.

Tau Turn one

The Kroot make a break for it from behind the emplacement. The Firewarriors move up into the emplacement to get LOS to the approaching Aspect warriors. Both units of suits emerged from behind cover to draw a bead on them as well. Then the firing began. The entire Tau army opened up on the scorpians. The Scorpians soaked up all the small arms fire and the Farseer took the hits from the plasma rifles and also from the railgun on the Broadside. This was risky as both of these hits would have insta killed him however the gamble paid off and his 4+ rerollable save held. This kept the casualties down to a minimum.

The total casualties from the tau shooting. Fortune pays for itself in one turn. The yellow dice is the result of the morale check.

The suits at the emplacement jumped behind cover to complete the Tau turn.

Eldar turn Two

The farseer once again cast fortune on the scorpian squad that he was attached to and guide on the avengers trailing behind. Once again there was a lot of movement in the Eldar lines.

Both Guardian squads continued to move up to better firing positions. The scorpian squad moved straight for the firewarriors with carbines in the emplacement. The avengers headed straight for the Kroot.

With everone firing this turn except the scorpians this finished the pre assault movement.

Then it was on to the shooting. The furthest forward Guardian squad (with brightlance) shot at the broadside hoping for an insta kill shot. Even though they were just in range they failed to hit.

The other Guardian squad with missile launcher fired a plasma missile at the firewarriors with pulse rifles in the trees but once again missed completely.

The avengers line up their shots on the Kroot, just visible to the left of the emplacement.

The result of the avenger shooting. Not a single Kroot survived. This redeemed the otherwise poor round of shooting from the Eldar.

With the shooting done and dusted it was then over to the assault phase. The scorpians made it in to assault with the firewarriors.

The resultant combat was carnage with most of the firewarriors falling for no return. This left them needing to roll snake eyes to stay in the fight. They broke and while the Eldar couldn't catch them their fallback roll was 12”, so they left the table.

Tau turn two

With two full units eliminated by the aspect warriors the 2 suits that remained on that flank fell back for support. The HQ unit headed straight for the Guardians with brightlance that were worrying the broadside. The rest of the Tau force held firm. Then it was onto the shooting.

Both the remaining firewarrior squad and the HQ suit unit opened up on the guardians on the hill. Between them, even although the guardians had a cover save, they downed 8. The guardians passed the resulting morale check.

The broadside and the suit squad opened up on the scorpian unit. Once again the farseer took a railgun hit and a plasma hit. His rerollable save again saving him. Two of the scorpians weren't as lucky and bit the dust.

This completed the Tau shooting and it was then onto the assault phase.

The HQ unit stayed put while the suits from the emplacement fell back further towards the broadside.

Eldar turn three

The farseer once again casts fortune on the scorpian unit and guides them as well.

The Dire Avengers change course and start heading for the Tau HQ unit that is murdering the Guardians on the hill.

The Scorpians move down of the emplacement and head towards the retreating suits.

The depleted Guardian squad moves back into unit coherency further behind the hill and the other guardian squad stays put.

With all the movement over it was onto the shooting.

The Guardians with the missile launcher shot at the remaining firewarrior squad. This time scoring a hit which resulted in 4 dead firewarriors. The tau passed the resulting morale check and held their ground.

The avengers opened up on the Tau HQ unit and after the smoke cleared only a single gun drone had fallen. This however was enough to make the Tau leader think better of hanging around and he and his bodyguard promptly legged it back towards their own table edge. This, coincidently, also brought them into assault range of the scorpians.

The resulting assault wasn't pretty as the Tau HQ unit was quickly dipatched by the scorpians. This however did leave them standing in the open in front of the remaining Tau gunline.

Tau turn three

Movement for the Tau was short due to their thinning ranks.

The remaining firewarriors moved out of the woods towards the scorpians to get into rapid fire range.

The suits and broadside stayed put, lining up on the scorpians as well.

Then it was onto the shooting. The Tau threw everything (including the kitchen sink) at the scorpians. The broadside shot first. The SMS hits were shrugged off by the scorpians rerollable armour save and the railgun hit was taken on the farseer. This time the farseers luck ran out and he was splatted by the huge shell. The suits managed to kill 2 scorpians. The firewarriors couldn't emulate their bigger brethern as all their hits were saved.

Eldar turn four

The depleted Guardian squad stayed put behind the hill to conserve their valuable kill point.

The other Guardian squad stayed put as well.

The avengers moved up towards the firewarriors. While the remaining scorpians lined up for a charge on the suits.

The Eldar shooting was pretty uneventful. The Guardians missed with their plasma missile.

The avengers took down a few of the firewarriors (this would've been more but for their armour saving them).

The scorpians managed to knock down both gun drones that accompanied the suits.

Then it was on to the assault phase. This ended with both suits biting the dust.

Tau turn four

With no movement it was straight on to the shooting.

The remaining firewarriors and the broadside opened up on the now fortuneless scorpians, hoping to gain another kill point. Their combined shooting managing to fell two of the aspect warriors including the Exarch.

I think I missed a turn somewhere when taking photos so turn four may well have been turn five.

We rolled for another turn and the dice fell on a one. The Eldar had won 4 – 1.

One way to boost post count I guess! Cool game.

Overall, nice pics and nice game! Very well drawn out report. Its nice you did it phase by phase instead of the overall game summary.

Can I just point out guys that post count isn't my highest priority.

I've had under 400 posts in 2 and a half years. At this rate I'll hit 1000 posts in 6 years - Woot!

The reason that the batrep was posted this way is that I started posting this when I realised that all the pics would have to be hosted before doing the text to get the text in the right places. I couldn't be bothered to re do it properly as I had already started.

I'll make sure I post the next one in one piece.

I don't think they do.

I think you'll find that they do. At least the Eldar codex tells me so but it might be wrong - you never know.

And yes I did remember about pinning however with only causing the one hit I only had one chance and the Tau passed the test.
