Alright, I decided I'd go ahead and use this forum as an opportunity to make a photodocumentary of the creation of my 1500pt army. Right now I have about half of what my mob will be when it's completed, in fact, only have enough to field a competent 1000 pt army.

Please leave any comments, concerns, hate, love, and tangents that you care to as this is my first 40k army and I really need the help. Photographs will be coming soon(as soon as I dig up the right chord) and hopefully my paper-towel photobooth will produce atleast decent pictures.

Alright, I have pictures and they're coming but I wasn't prepared for just how unflattering high-detail, high-lighting photos can be. Please keep in mind that everything is WIP and that most details aren't in yet.

These are my ten shoota boyz, they're going to be Goff but the only detail right now are the checkerboards and the skin. I only recently got washes (after a year of procrastination ) and this was my first attempt at using them, everything else in the army is hand painting and dry brushing.
For the skin I tried Orkhide Shade, Knarloc Green drybushing, 2 Dakka Green washes, and then Knarloc Green highlighting.

Here are half of the Lootas, the last one is the most recent and (I think) the best one.

And the only painted Burna Boy

These are the Slugga Boyz that I've painted, there are only 6 finished and 1 unfinished (on the far left,) I need to fix some of the facepaint as well.

Alright, this is about the least finished model, mostly because I can't think of how else to decorate it: the Killa Kan.

And...the Flash Gitz. I knew I would never field these but I really wanted to try making/painting some.

Alright, these are the Nobz. Once I knew I wouldn't field these I decided (like most of my army) I would just fiddle with painting. The blue Nob is supposed to be covered in war paint, not actually blue skinned.

And, lastly, the obligatory AoBR Warboss:

First 40k army eh? Do you have any experience painting before that? I think you're definitely off to a great start! The paper towel background made me laugh, I usually just tape a couple pieces of plain white paper together and that seems to do the trick (in case you were looking to get rid of the ply in the background )
I know your nob isn't supposed to have blue skin, but I think it'd be awesome to see some orks of the non-green persuasion, but that might just be heresy on my end.
Keep up the good work!

Tried a more conventional style of painting on one of the Burnas, also tried an Evil Sunz scheme as I won't actually be fielding this model. With this model I wanted to do a couple things: practice with washes, find a quick and fairly nice looking painting style, and find out whether only 1 shade of orange and one of red is enough to pull off Evil Sunz.
First pic, this is what I started with. Nothing too complicated, primed black and the arms were painted Orkhide Shade a long time ago and I decided to paint over that.

About half way through painting (11:45 PM at this point ) I tried to as accurate as I could with the paint except (as you can see) were I knew I would be painting over it.

With washes and a little detailing/highlighting.

Decided that I would repaint my Shoota Boyz skin and change their scheme from Goffs to Bad Moons. I'm surprised about the effect that the washes are having, unfortunately, while it looks superb under standard lighting, the high lighting at which I'm taking these high detail photos points out some flaws almost invisible to the naked eye. I do really like how they came out and I think they'll look almost perfect on the tabletop .

Spring Break is giving me a chance to plow through a lot more painting then I've been able to in the past few months. Finished a second boy, with the change in painting techniques it only takes about 2 or 3 hours from start to finish. I won't keep posting pictures of every boy but I thought this one warranted it because it has some freehand work which I'd like some opinions on and it has a little more detail then the last model, my favorite is the Baal Red wash around the eyes that give a little "glow factor" (terrible pun I know) to the model.

Nice. Ya did a great job on the boy I think. And that Baal Red eye wash is a cool idea. Might have to steal that from ya. But keep up the good work.

Continuing to work on the Shoota Boyz, painted the Rokkit Boy and the Nob, getting a little tired of Shoota Boyz and am thinking of how I'm going to approach the Killa Kan.

Quick Update, painting my ass off today, finished the Warboss, repainted the Killa Kan, and finished another Shoota Boy; I'll post pics as soon as the shoota boy finishes drying. Also, I feel bad about bumbing this thread back up to the top every day as the expense of all the truly exquisite projects in this forum and I'm well aware that mine aren't nearly up to par so I think I'll start updating less frequently unless you all really like seeing frequent updates.

*Edit*
Alright, pics here, I like it how you're slowly getting a larger picture of my desk as I have more to show . I think I've almost mastered the checkerboard but now I've got the curved lines to master (Bad Moonz pattern,) quite a tricky beast I assure you, anyway feel free to comment.

I'm really liking that yellow/brown you are using, what color is it/what wash (if any) are you using over it?

I just started Orks about a year ago. and am finally close to finishing my last piece for my 1500 point army.

Unfortunately I only own the Foundation Paint Set and the Wash Set and while the foundation paint set is pretty diverse it has almost no multiple shades of a single color so I've fallen on using washes instead on buying a lot more paint. Currently I'm painting the vest/shirt that the orks have with Tausept Ochre and the straps with Iyaden Darksun then the pants with Calthan Brown. Once all that dries and I'm happy with it, I wash the yellow parts in Gryphonne Sepia and the brown in Devlan Mud and then I might touch it up a bit but it's mostly done. Hope this helps .

Well, just after I finished painting the AoBR Warboss I traveled to the local Games Workshop to play. Things went well and I won a couple games but every time I moved the Warboss 24" first turn (bike turbo boosters) I saw some eyebrows raised so I decided to grab a Warboss Blister and get to work on making a Warboss on a bike (actually a Deffkopta without the blades) and this is what I came out with, about half way through right now.

Note-Sorry for the lack of clarity but hopefully you can see the rough outline

I'm working on my Warboss with a bike to and deff kopatz make a great convertion for it. The blades make a good use for the bike forks. Cant wait to see what you come up with.
