Tower of Power






Cannock

Had a slightly different game fo 40K last night. The imperials used the kill points system, while orks earned a kill point for every unit which crossed the board edge and through the blockade. Something different I guess.

Imperial Fists

1 x Captain - storm shield & lightning claw

1 x Chaplain - terminator armour

5 x Assault Terminators w/ Land Raider - all thunder hammers

5 x Assault Terminators w/ Land Raider - 2 x lightning claws & 3 x thunder hammers

5 x Blood Angel Terminators - storm botlers & power fists

10 x Marines w/ Razorback - heavy bolter & flamer - sgt w/ bolt pistol & power weapon

10 x Marines w/ Razorback - rocket launcher & flamer - sgt w/ bolt pistol & power weapon

10 x Marines w/ Razorback - rocket launcher & flamer - sgt w/ bolt pistol & power weapon

1 x Warboss - eavy armour, cybork body, power klaw, attack squig & combi skorcha

The Imperial Fists Captain had been given a simple mission, defend the edge of the city sector on the outskirts of the oil fields and let none of the invading greenskins crossed his path. The Orks had been invading this planet for several weeks until the Imperial Fists had arrived, at first the numbers were managable, but now millions more and recently appeared from inbound Space Hulks and Roks which crashed down to the south of the planet's surface.

The oil field was a important asset for the Orks. It would provide their machinery with fuel, however, the Imperial Guard used Skorched Earth tactic and left the oil field a-flame as they fell back into the city while the Fists held the line. The Captain had been at the sectors edge for just over 24 hours and no green xenos had approached yet, though his thoughts were confirmed that they had survived the great blazes of the oil field as a large horde outnumbering the Fists 3-1 reached the summit of the hill before them emering from the thick black smoke.


Deployment

The fists had three ruins across the edge of the board, a manufactrum, basilica & sanctum. The basilica was in the middle of the edge with the two land raiders either side. Between each ruin a razorback with the sgt & flamer marines with the heavy weapon part of the combat squads setting up in each respective ruin.

Turn 1

Orks rolled to go first all transports moved forward as far as they can go with each unit of shoota boys flanking them running as far as they could, though were just out of reach of the three craters for cover. The biker unit flanked the battle wagon and turbo boost to line up against its vulnerable side to give a cover side against the missile launcher totting marine up ahead.

No Orks fired in the shooting phase and the big mek & lootas forgot to fire!

Each marine transport moved just 6" to use the fire power, except the land raider carrying the chaplain and the thunder hammer terminators.

The missile launcher combat squad closest to the bikers fired on them, but only killed one due to the invulnerable saves from turbo boosting. The razorback of the over all tactical squad fired at the bikers and scored another kill. The captain's land raider with the mix of assault terminators fired both lascannons at the battle wagon and managed to immobilise it. The razorback flanking it fired one the oncoming shoota boyz with the rokkits and killed two. The heavy bolter combat squad fired into the mass of orks the razorback fired at and scored several kills. The chaplains land raider split fire, the heavy bolter firing at one of the oncoming shoota boyz and the two lascannons blowing up the meganobz trukk leaving them to foot slog it across the battle field! The missile launcher combat squad in the manufactorum fired a frag into a shoota horde close to the meganobz and scored several kills. The last razorback fired on the shoota mob approaching and scored two kills. Score so far 1-0 to the Fists

"What!?" bellowed the Warboss as his prize looted battle wagon ground to a halt.

The boss and his nobz marched down the looted marine land raiders open doors surveying the battle field. The prize wagon had black billowing smoke coming out the rear as grots climbed all over it to repair it as quickly as possible. He looked over the swarm of green and saw the trukk carrying the meganobz barrel roll down the slope crashing to a halt


Turn 2

All ork mobs run forward using the craters for cover best they could. The meganobz managed to move just 2" due to the slow and purposful rule. The remaining four bikers turbo boosted through the open door of the sanctum and were about 4" from the board edge. The trukk carrying the ard boyz charged forward and they bailed out. The boss called a waaaagh! and all shoota boyz ran another 6" but couldn't fleet as were too far away from assault.

In the shooting phase the burnas jumped out the looted wagon and blasted six of the flamer templates at two marines on the lower level, but only managed to kill one. The Warboss and nobz charged the razorback closest too them, after several weapon destroyed and immobilised results by the nobz the boss struck and destroyed it.

In assault the ard boy charged a combat squad of missile launcher marines inside the manufactorum ruin and managed to kill two of them, the ard boyz also took three wounds, the marines failed the morale test and fell back but luckily wasn't swept.

"Do da burny dance" shouted a ork burna as a imperial fist fell ablaze from the first floor of partially destroyed ruin.

The Captain could see the ork numbers closing in, he knew he had to hold this line at all costs, but he needed support. The Captain put out a call for backup, there was other chapters in the area and he didn't care if help come from the butcher like Blood Angels the noble Ultramarines or the lightning quick White Scars. As quickly as he had sent the request he had a reply.

"The Blood Angels will aid you Captain of the Imperial Fists" came a bellow over the vox.

In the distance towards the line of Orks with heavy weapons a bright flash lit up the dirt as 5 red giants in terminator armour teleported onto the battle field


The captain and mixed terminators disembarked from the land raider and prepared to assault the warboss and nobz. The razorback near the manufactorum held its position while the combat squad inside disembarked and moved towards the oncoming mob.

For the shooting phase the missile squad which had been set on fire by the burnas took revenge opening fire and cutting down the numbers, the combat squad from the destroyed razorback had moved into position and fired on the burnas with flame and bolter fire leaving in a total of 2 left. The other razorback by the sanctum rotated the turret and fired at the bikers along with its squad which disembarked and fired on the bikers also, however after saves two bikers still remained. The catpain's land raider split fire, the heavy bolter fired at a ork mobbing scoring kills and the lascannons fired at the meganobz but only killed one. The heavy bolter combat squad in the basilica fired at one of the shoota mobs scoring several kills. The chaplin and terminators disembarked from the land raider, the chaplain fired at the ard boyz while the land raider split fire, firing the heavy bolter at another shoota mob and killing two meganobz with lascannon fire. The blood angel terminators fired at the big mek & lootas but were disorentated from the teleport and only killed one loota.

In assault the captain and assault terminators charge the nobz, the captain failed to score any wounds while the lightning claws scored one wound between them. The orks struck back and killed a terminator, the thunder hammers then smashed a two nobs to pieces while another terminator was crushed by the boss' klaw. The chaplain and thunder hammer assault terminators charged the ard boyz and killed the lot in combat, they consolidated back into the land raider.

Turn 3

The two shoota boys in the centre of the table moved closer to the ruins, another turn and they could possibly run off the board. The meganobz followed them and rolled a 6 for movement. The ard boyz trukk moved 18" and off the table scoring a point

The big mek fired the shokk attack gun at the terminators, but it scatter and completely missed. The lootas rolled a 4 on a D3 for the number of shoot and unloaded 19 shots into the terminators scoring well for orks in hits but unluckily scored no kills. The shoota mob which got fired on by the flamer combat squad returned fired but only managed to kill one marine!

In assault the captain and terminators slayed the painboy and nobz scoring 2 kills points making the score 3-2 and left the boss with one wound. The shoota boy mob charged the combat squad it fired on and scored one wound and received and wound itself.

The razorback which had shot the ork bikers in the previous round loaded up with marines and moved 12" towards the mobs to provide support. The chaplain and terminators disembarked from the land raider ready to tackle the oncoming ork horde. The blood angel terminators advanced towards the big mek and lootas.

The two land raiders both split fire, heavy bolters at the two ork hordes and the lascannons at the meganobz finally killing them and making the score 4-2. The missile launcher squad in the sanctum fired at the looted wagon of the burnas and destroyed earning another kill point (5-2). The remaining missile launcher combat squad which lost combat against the ard boyz managed to get line of sight with the missile launcher on one ork and fired a frag, but it scatter and missed the mob all together. The heavy bolter and marines supporting ni the basilica fired at the close range mob raking in the kills.

In combat the boss was slain making the points 6-2, the captain and terminators consolidated towards the front of the basilica. The chaplain and terminators charged a mob and left 7 standing and took two wounds, the chaplain took one of them - the ork mob failed the morale test and fell back. The mob already in combat managed to kill the last two marines and consolidated forward 2". The blood angels smashed the lootas and big mek to pieces with power fists and sword earning another two kill points making the score 8-2, they consolidated back towards the main battle.

"Imperial Fists, we have the xenos defeated, purge them all!" bellowed the Captain

Turn 4

One shoota mob had lost 25% of his models in the previous shooting phase, they failed a morale test and fell back, luckily managed to pass to rally. The other shoota mob which got battered by the chaplain and terminators passed the morale test due to 25% models lost and moved fired and fired on the chaplain and terminators flukely scoring a kill with a rokkit shot.

In assault the shoota mob charged the chaplain and terminators, after saves flukily another two terminators had been killed however the ork mob was destroyed making the kill points 9-2.

In the final turn for the marines all guns which were in range of the largest shoota mob, the one by the manufactorum were fired and all were wiped out. All guns within range of the last remaining mob fired softening them up for the captain and terminators, which then charged them and killed the lot!

WINNER: Imperial Fists & Blood Angels

Shockingly no orks at all were left on the table, no survivors at all. The Fists did well, usually a unit of bikes are taken with a attack bike and multi melta, though due to Orks I decided to take a vanilla terminator unit. My plan worked which was to keep the razorbacks and land raiders as static firing bunkers to take out the orks and take out transports a.s.a.p, particularly the warboss' and meganobz transports as they are dangerous units. After that was just a case of lascannon fire picking off hte meganobz as they have no invulnerable save and instant death as double toughness and the warboss and nobz get hacked apart by the captain and terminators.

Your in a battlefield with the Rhino your Leman could move like. Whats in your hand, back at me, I have it, it's the fire control for the Twin-linked Assault Cannons aimed at you. Look again, it's a Deep-Striked Land-Raider. Anything is possible when your Tanks move like Blood Angels, and not like Guardsmen. I'm on a Baneblade.
