An extreme example of course. Three models in the unit + Command 10 = hilarity.

Yeah, I'm not sure how well that would work in practical application. Also, I hope your leader doesn't get hit by something that knocks him back a few inches, out of formation with his lads. Like, say, a gun mage bullet.

I don't find these rules that freaky, but then again, I LOVED the Starship troopers rule set, and it used these exact type of formation rules.

Well if that happens...

Guess what I want to know is, if you ONLY have an officer and they get sniped, does one of the
grunts then get Field Promoted?

A model will become the unit commander, but will not replace the officer.

But, technically you wont ever have just grunts + officer, since grunts are always purchased with a leader and the leader is always replaced with a grunt.

Hey a quick note on your observation there (and I just posted this in the news thread too).

If at anytime during its movement a grunt is out of formation (outside CMD range of the commander), it MUST advance toward the commander.

What that translates to is that if your commander is in the back and orders a charge, and then a grunt in front of him charges, that grunt will begin charging but will stop and fail the charge as soon as it leaves the CMD radius (it must immediately advance toward the commander, but can't, so it stops).

Its a big change from the way things currently work. Right now, you only check formation at the beginning of activation and the end of movement. In MKII however, you check formation all the time.

What would happen is Rhoven would order the charge, RUN forward, and then Gius and Caphen would charge out at whatever they wanted to kill.

Right? Pretty much?

Ok. Coupled with the field promotion rule, it seems like this won't be so bad - but essentially your leader has to be up in the front, and has to lead the charge.
