Well guys this is my first attempt at an official battle report. I will edit soon and add in our army lists. Right now i just want to post my photos of the table and deployment.

The game was a Capture and Control with a whopping 5 objectives on a Dawn of War set up. I will continue to post more as I get it done.
[Thumb - Table Set Up and Deployment.jpg]
I tried to get a good birds eye view, but my garage had a low cealing. The board was 4x6 feet. I just made the ice world terrain. I think it turned out o.k.

[Thumb - Table Set Up.jpg]
A different view of the set up.

[Thumb - Deployment Tau and Orks.jpg]
Here are our deployments. The Tau got first turn and chose the side with the most objectives. They set up well for a crossfire and my orks felt it on the first two turns. It was ugly.

The Tau army was painted and given to our gaming group(on loan) as a house army from Captain Antonius. It was his first army and he did a great job painting them I thought. He would be proud of it, it has a 2-1-0 record so far since we have had it in the 40k garage.

The 1498 point tau army consisted of

Fireknife configuration Commander

Deathrain configuration suit
Deathrain configuration suit

12 firewarriors
12 firewarriors
Devilfish
12 kroot
10 Human auxilaries

8 Pathfinders
Devilfish

Broadside

RailHead

And though this game was officially a tie between us.
The winner of the game was a lone dark eldar warrior which happened to make his way to the board around the fourth turn. Holding a lone objective by himself. Making him the only one with an objective. Victory dark eldar, winning battles they didn't even fight in.

Very cool start. Are you utelizing powerpoint to get the 'on the ground' pics within the 'birds eye view' pics?

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

1st Turn Tau: The Tau brought in all of their troops on turn one due to the dawn of war rules. They laid down some massive fire power upon my orks in the open. Ghaz was attached to the unit, but thankfully they didn't have to roll a moral test due to shooting, because they were fearless. 12 slugga boyz went down in a hail of tau fire, but when the blood mist settled the boyz looked around and thought to themselves that there was enough of them to keep going, so they kept going or perhaps the presence of Da legendary warboss Ghaz, kept them going. I think i may have lost 1 or two shoota boyz in the trees from a hail of fire from the stealthsuits and drones.

1st Turn Orks: The Boyz bring in everything except da Kommandos who stay in reserve to ambush da puunies. I moved the boyz up the middle with Ghaz, perhaps as a distraction for the main force...shhhhh (Nob Bikers.) This turn found the Tau really untouched by the terrible shooting of da boyz.

[Thumb - 100_3862.jpg]
Da boyz lose 12 and keep going!

Here is my mob as they entered on the first turn.

Turn 2 Tau: Well this turn found the orks getting shot up. It was ugly and did not look good for da boyz. Pretty much everything fired up the boyz in the open, except a few broadsides that I think may have fired up the battlewagon which luckily only found its drivers ducking and not moving anywhere on their next turn. Although they wiped out the 14 boyz in the middle, Ghaz was not attached to that mob, so he remained unharmed and survived. The stealthsuits and drones took out a few more shoota boyz only leaving 14 out of 20. They moved a little closer during their assault phase(Some special tau move.)

Turn 2 Orks: The Boyz push forward in turn two after seeing that they can't beat the tau in a shooting match. Not with the range of the Tau weapons. So the Nob Bikers rev der engens and was ready to kick some tau ice. Ghaz calls a Waaaagh! Da shoota boyz in the trees lunge forward towards the Stealth Suits and Drones and assaults. The Assault phase found the Tau stealth suits and drones wiped out and the orks sitting in the open, but close to the fire warriors on the hill.
[Thumb - 100_3878.jpg]
You can see there is nothing left in the middle thanks to the advanced tau firepower.

[Thumb - 100_3877.jpg]
Da Shoota boyz lose a few to the Stealth Suits and Drones.

[Thumb - 100_3879.jpg]
The Tau army stands ready for the Ork Waaaagh!!!

[Thumb - 100_3883.jpg]
Da boyz charge forward and wipe out the stealth suits and drones on the left. Da bikers stand ready to take some serious hits from all the tau

[Thumb - 100_3891.jpg]
Nob Bikers getting closer!

[Thumb - 100_3899.jpg]
Another view of the battlefield. You can see the shoota boyz getting ready to charge up the hill. Could this be Squigburger Hill?

Turn 3 Tau: Just as I said, almost the entire firepower of the Tau fire upon the Nob Bikers in the middle. Some Taus move and make some adjustments, but most of them focused all their fire on the da bad dudes on the bikes. Thankfully for the shoota boyz looking to charge up the hill, the warriors fired upon the bikes instead. It was madness, but the Nobs only lost two bikes. The painboy was a very, very, very busy ork. The Tau Kroots attempted to outflank the orks and ended up coming in at the worst place possible. My buddy was hoping to bring them into the trees, but failed to accomplish this task.

Turn 3 Orks: Once again snikrot and his kommandos fail to enter the table. An ork can only sneak for so long, right? The nob bikers fire their twinlinked dakka guns at the fire warriors. They eliminate them with ease, but find themselves with no one to charge and therefore will be in the open again for a hail of gunfire. The shoota boyz charge up the hill and kill enough tau to cause them to break and run. I was hoping to kill them in a sweeping advance, but they out rolled me. That was not good for the shoota boyz next turn. Although they were holding that objective for a few minutes. The Battlewagon rolls forward and sets himself up to do some damage later.
[Thumb - 100_3900.jpg]
The nob bikers lose two nice bikes and begin to sqeeze the triggers of their twin-linked dakka guns. They are aiming at the firewarriors in front of them. See next photo to find the results.

[Thumb - 100_3913.jpg]
The firewarriors die quickly in a hail for gunfire from the bikers and the shoota boyz take the hill as the tau run like imperial guard. (sorry ig guys)

Tau Turn 4: This turn saw the tau launch a massive counter assault. They did some damage and wreaked havoc in the ork lines. A lot of movement as you can see in the photos. The tau regrouped by the hill and fired upon the shoota boyz. They wiped out all of the boyz except the nob who stood ready to accept the charge coming his way. The shoota boy nob fought hard, but soon fell in combat. The nob bikers lost two more in the hail of gunfire.

Ork Turn 4: More to come later... too late...... Well here it is. On this turn Ghaz shot and assaulted the brave fire warriors that moved once relieved by the lost kroots. Ghaz made quick work of these little fellas and did his d6 consolidation move and moved near the middle objective, although he couldn't hold it for victory conditions. The Nob Bikers shot up and I believe assaulted the Pathfinders and wiped them out. The Battlewagon flew forward to ram and use his deff rolla on the tau skimmer tank. We weren't sure whether we could use the deff rolla for an attack vs a vehicle, but my buddy said go for it. I went for it and failed miserably. The Tau transport that boldly moved south onto the ork objective to contest it found itself surrounded by a mob of orks. It's fancy dancy launchers killed a load of em, but they still managed to destroy the beast with a lot . I love it when a 6pt model mob wipes out a tank.

[Thumb - Tau turn 4 movement.jpg]
Here is the tau movement on turn 4. Bold move, bold move!

[Thumb - 100_3921.jpg]
The nob stares into the face of death and smiles.

[Thumb - 100_3925.jpg]
The Tau are one step closer at taking the hill.

[Thumb - 100_3930.jpg]
After Ork turn 4. You can see that the number of models on the board are slowly shrinking.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

If it's anything like my last game against Tau, you'll fail to see any Kommandos until it's far too late and you've just got twelve grots wrapped around a battlesuit that can't hit them. Then you run out of time.

Things could have been very bad for the Tau in turn 3 if instead of shooting the firewarriors had the Biker Nobs had multi assaulted the two firewarrior units and maybe either the Hammerhead or crisis suits. There was enough bikes to get all that in. The devistating blow would have been heard planet wide.

Very nice report so far. Good game too. It's nice to see battles that are actually close instead of people posting a one-sided game.

You know warboss looking at this battle I realized something, no matter what army I play you never go after my heavy support choices. What is your reasoning for that?

Well my 2headedlictor friend I have never really given that much thought. I know your broadsides were so far out of the main objective areas that they would have been a problem to me if I focused on them. If I could have got my bikes on them I would have, but you always do a great job at backing up your heavy support choices, either with reserve genes or something else that is nasty. Besides a I play the orks, they go for the nearest unit anyhow don't they?

Since they are playing seize ground, the best strategy is to kill the enemy troop choices whenever possible.

True enough, and now that I think about it you have gone after my heavy support before in other games. It's just I charged the rest of my army on you so it was not very memorable. hardrockfreak1337 you are right in this scenario, orks have no good reason to go after heavy support choices.

Finally I can try to finish this......... Onto turn 5.... could the game end after this turn? We shall see?

Tau Turn 5: Going into turn 5 my friend knew he had to do something about my slugga boyz on the south objective. Both the tau and the orks had two troop choices left on the board, which of course are the only units that can take and hold an objective. The tau had his troop choices spread out on the board. He had his the kroots on the right and a few firewarriors on the left. He made some minor moves just to reposition his units for shooting. His battlesuit shot up the 11 boyz and killed 4, but that was all he needed to cause them to turn and run away. He also blew up my Battlewagon. He moved his other transport near the middle objective to contest it. If the game ended after turn five and nothing changes the Tau will have the victory by holding two objectives and the orks only contesting one.

Ork Turn 5: This turn was crucial and the orks had to remove the tau from the objectives. I had hoped for either a complete annihilation or some tau running away. Was Snikrot and his 11 kommandos going to finally show up? YES! He really couldn't have come on at a better time. I decided to have him take on the Kroot. He moved forward and was a little short for the charge so he just ran closer. This turn is a little fuzzy, but I moved the biker nobs over onto the hill to shoot and assault the firewarriors. His commander was out of the 2" range, so he was not apart of the squad. I shot up the firewarriors with my twin-linked dakka blasters and turned them into tauburger quite easily, but was unable to asasult anyone with the bikes. Ghazghkull assaulted the battlesuit in the middle of the board and quickly killed him. He consolidated back near the objective. My slugga boyz ran off the board.

We rolled to determine if the game ended and it did not....so the battle rages on another turn.
[Thumb - 100_3935.jpg]
The battlesuit moves and shoots up the boyz to the south. The battlewagon is destroyed. Not looking good for the orks!

[Thumb - 100_3936.jpg]
A smoking crater is all that is left of the deffrolla battlewagon. Pieces are still falling.

[Thumb - 100_3937.jpg]
The Nob Bikes are untouched after Tau turn 5.

[Thumb - 100_3942.jpg]
Snikrot to the rescue!!!!!!!!! He moves onto the board on the right with his kommandos obediently following.

[Thumb - 100_3943.jpg]
The Bikers turn towards the firewarriors on the hill and quickly shoot them down, but are unable to assault anyone. Ghaz makes quick work of the battlesuit in the middle and consolidates back towards the objective.

Tau Turn 6: The tau fire upon the bikes and the kroots shoot up the kommandos. The Kroots kill 4 ork Kommandos but fail to cause them to run away in fear. They stand ready to return fire at the Kroots. The Nob Bikers took some heavy fire power from all the broadsides, and everything else on the board, leaving one biker with a power claw left. The Tau Battlesuit assaults the final Biker and finishes him off.

Ork Turn 6: This was a crazy turn. The Kommandos shot up the kroot and caused them to run off the board I believe. All I know if that they were there and then they weren't. The kommandos regrouped on the objective, but since they were elite they are unable to hold the objective. Ghaz destroys one of the transport skimmers with his massive Power Claw attacks.

The Game did not end and it continues on for the last turn..... unbelievable.

Tau Turn 7: The Tau player, my friend, 2headedlictor, said at the beginning of this turn, "I can win if I utterly wipe everything off the board." He was correct in that strategic conclusion, but was unable to do so. Ghaz and the few remaining Kommandos survived the firepower thrown at them.

Ork Turn 7: The orks at this point could not do much....Ghaz decided to assault the battlesuit nearest him and of course chops him up into tausuey. He consolidates back within a few inches of the middle objective. He is stubborn and doesn't care if he can't hold the objective because he is a HQ choice. He could careless about troop choices and holding objectives. He just sat down on the objective in defiance of all rules pertaining to objective holding. Snikrot was not finished and pointed his orks towards the battlesuit and assaulted him. They were unable to kill him and the game ended with a battlesuit surrounded by snikrot and kommandos.

Conclusion: The game ended in a draw due to the fact that there were no troop choices left on the board to hold objectives. I think the game would have been a quick one if the orks would have just stayed back and was not brave enough to push forward. The Tau are way to deadly at a distance. The Tau did an excellent job, but the Kroots coming in on the wrong side of the table instead of the trees was a problem for them. The game could have gone either way several times, but it was a fight to the very end. A great game overall I believe. It was a prelude to a battle that 2headedlictor and I had to fight in a tournament this past weekend for the championship. We ended up in a draw in that game as well. Of course it was my painted snikrot that put me in the lead and allowed me to win the entire tournament, but my friend came in second with a warlord award.
[Thumb - 100_3945.jpg]
The Kroots take aim at the oncoming Kommandos and Snikrot.

[Thumb - 100_3949.jpg]
The Kroots take out 4 Kommondos in the shooting phase, and stays put during the assault phase. Maybe they should have charged?

[Thumb - 100_3952.jpg]
A Nob Biker and Battlesuit face off. Somehow the battlesuit wins. I guess the Biker ran out of fuel finally.

[Thumb - 100_3959.jpg]
The Kommandos remove the Kroots from their position just with their sluggas alone. Snikrot was a little disappointed and hoped to bloody up his blades a little. Maybe next time if he wasn't so darn late in showing up.

[Thumb - 100_3965.jpg]
Ghaz is getting annoyed with the constant humming of the battlesuit behind him. He decides to assault him and stops that dumb humming.

[Thumb - 100_3964.jpg]
Snikrot pushes his kommandos forward towards the broadside. He wants blood on his blades and was dissapointed the kroots ran away from him before he could bloody em up.

[Thumb - 100_3969.jpg]
This is the end of the game photo. There were no troop choices left on the board so we called it a draw.

[Thumb - 100_3971.jpg]
THE END!

The terrain favored the Tau incredibly. If it was my army I would have had to run the wagon scare, Zagtruk Snikrot ambush tactics. Basically I would have had three wagons with foot slogging ork shootas, then ambushed and deep striked into your army to alter your attention to the new units and then just ride up and eaten the Hammerheads/skyrays/devilfishes with the Deff rollas. and let the Lootas pick off the broadsides (math hammering and doing some mock dice rolling the lootas are really good at picking them off.)

In my defence it was warboss who set up terrain, also when he uses multiple battle wagons I get lucky and blow up at least one or two. Also he did try to ram my railhead with his deathrolla at one point I don't remember which, but skimmers get the dodge chance.
Tell you the truth there is no excuse that I lost this particular game except, it was late and those random cube number generators. Also remember this little tidbit warboss has to tool his list to fight tau or tyranids with the same list, just like I have to tool my list to either fight orks or marines, before the game even starts.

I know the terrain was a little barren....but I liked the look of it and love the challenge. It's a frozen lake for Mork sake, what the heck would i place on it....a couple ice fisherman's outhouses? Just kidding. I enjoy setting up cool looking terrain as much as playing, especially if I'm doing a battle report.
