Yes, I'm planning to add a feature that will just append any new posts to the end of your last post if you had the last post in a thread and it is within 24 hours.

Though this might hurt the dynamic of the War!! and SURVIVOR games....

if you are posting as a followup to yourself in those sorts of threads then you are cheating So long as there has been at least one post in the meantime it wont append.

There would be of course an exception if you're updating a blog. This can happen twice a day.

Blogs / battle reports are where it gets a bit more complex, but it only becomes an issue if nobody has commented between posts. Once people get into the habit of having single long posts instead of lots of little posts one after the other then it will be less of a problem. I'll be tweaking the timings anyway, 24 hours is probably too long so I need to think it through a bit more.

Aye I agree 24 hours is a bit long, but an hour would be plenty. I mean, if you are making posts after yourself every 5 seconds, you should be on twitter, not Dakka

I was thinking... why can't we just disable post count in the off-topic forum to prevent +1 post spam threads?

Because that just encourages more spam, because it says "oh look, the Mods don't care what happens here". If you want a utter Spam Forum, go the way of That Other Forum and make it [DCM] only.

Seconded. I feel like a lot of posts in this forum are only to inflate one's post count to seem like they have contributed a lot of posting to the forum, when in reality all they do is post image macros or single sentence replies. How would disabling +postcount for the OT forum do any harm?

The PP Boards do this, and I don't think it encourages spam.

I think 3 hours is enough for the automated appending of a post.
