I just thought I'd show you my attempt at re-doing my horribly, horribly painted Imperial Guard. I was thinking of a kind of Russian/Soviet theme at first but then just decided I like the cadians the way they are. Here is my first attempt, a comms-trooper from 1st Platoon 33rd Volstan 'Siege Breakers' Regiment. Let me know what you think (and for those of you who wonder why his Vox looks a bit small and sad, its because it is now essentialy a glorified tape-recorder and the antena looked better on my sentinal ).

i like the highlighting put into your model but im not real big on the colour scheme being a full green shade, have you thought/tried a 2 colour scheme?

Thanks for support Gutteridge! On the colour scheme, I have no real answer to why I chose it I just liked it and thought it would look good in a large mass (cos hey, they're guard...) aswell as the fact that it allows my officers, sergeants and stormies to stand out with their different coloured armour.

I've been at work on these fellas, my favorite is the plasma gunner who is supposed to be heavily augmented combat veteran. Again Let me know what you think...

That plasma gunner is scary! It looks like he had an unfortunate accident with that plasma gun, but the Imperium felt he served well enough to be brought back to service...although his face might say something about how he feels about that!

I think the models look good, though IMO they'd look a bit better without the red; maybe a less contrasting color would look more appropriate. Either way, you're off to a good start

Good painting. I'd personally prefer black armour on the green, but the brown/tan looks good too.

I'd like to think he's more like a rented car: its bad to be one. He's a living legend throughout the regiment, has survived numerous crippling injuries and has extensive bionic surgeory to such an extent that he barely has any conscious thoughts. He has been drafted as a plasma gunner because if anything goes wrong he just keeps going with little or no-sense of pain and has extra bits nailed on afterwards.

I'd like to think that but as a regular Guardsmen with a plasma weapon isn't realy worth making a backstory for. And I think yours is better .

A little micro-update dedicated to the '=I= bits' mentioned in the thread name. First model for my daemon hunter retinue, is a nervous looking sage converted from a dogs of war crossbowman with a few SM parts to tech him up a bit. Not particularly well painted (like the rest of them) but I think I'm improving. Should have some more guard stuff aswell as a combat servitor (read: cyber-ogryn) coming up...

It was only a fledgeling army and I never really got round to the big stuff, but will soon try and get my paws on a leman russ (and hopefully magnets) of some description.

Back with some more stuff, still only infantry though. A sergeant with lasgun+underslung grenade launcher (stupid new rules... only cc weapon and las pistol... grrrrr ) and more guardsmen along with a plasma gunner. These fellas are temporarily doubling as Inquisitroial Stormtroopers and I'm intending to make some suitable icons/shoulder pads to attach to them to make it more convincing for the sake of money/laziness for spooning between the two armies.

Another addition is my Lobo-gryn, a a combat servitor for my daemon hunters warband. Nothing major just a metal black orc without weapons, pink skin and a new helmet. Even though he is smaller than a normal Ogryn (due to growth inhibitor glands in his helmet) and without proper weapons he still looks quite capable of splatting someone into the ground.

I will, at some point base my models properly.

Well, with the sergeant you could always turn him into a guardsman with a grenade launcher, those are always effective weapons with the guard. All you'd need then is another sergeant

I can imagine the two plasmagunners pictured above sitting down talking. Lets call them Vet and Newb:

Newb: - Eh, say Vet?
Vet: *makes noncommitting gurgling noice*
N: - I thought that maybe you coud give me a few tricks for handling these babies?
V: *makes questionning gurgling noice*
N: Oh, nothing in particular, just tricks like... How do you do to not get hurt?
V: *gurgles completely without a clue*
N: - Well, it says here in the Infantrymans Primer, addendum for Mark III Sunfury plasmagun... ehum... "The Mark III Sunfury has been blessed with extensive emergency heat venting systems than in the case of plasma core meltdown will almost guarantee to leave the weapon undamaged, ready to be picked up by your teammembers."
V: *nods confirmingly and gurgles approvingly*
N: - Well, doesn't it hurt? I guess the vented plasma is pretty hot?
V: *looks at his arms, legs and feels his face. Then nods and gurgles empathically*
N: - So, how hot? Would it help if wore a pair of mittens? They have these really thick ones in the canteen...
V: *looks a bit bothered and makes noncommittant sounds*
N: - oh... I guess not. Well, I believe I will recieve duly training in the matter soon. I only just got it today you see. Marci had some sort of accident in the field, so she was taken of active duty...
V: *questioning noice*
N: - It probably wasnt anything bad, because the medics that carried her back didn't put a single needle or medservitor on her, just a white blanket covering all of her. They didn't seem to be in a rush either, so I guess she just got exhausted in the sun, or maybe twisted an ankle or something. It's too bad I can't get in to see her due to the radiation level.
V: *just looks at Newb, waiting for the dime to drop.*
N: -Oh well, Since Marci obviously can't use it right now, I'll go talk to lt. Corner, and apply for permanent plasmagunner status.
V: *gurgles softly and inquisitive*
N: -Yeah, I actually think this weapon and me, we were made for each other. With my enthusiasm and its power, what could go wrong?
V: *stands up, stretches his clanking and whistling body* *Takes a step towards Newb and pats his shoulder. As he removes his rebreater system he says - "You tcho wach mechd fow eachocheh. A chright chukure. You chill khie wich chis ghun."
N: - Oh man, thanks for the pep. I'll go talk to the brass right away. *runs off*
V: *turns to his squadmates, rasises a glass in a toast* -A Chright chukure! I chave ken chrones chat chaych it hakkens comorroh! *holds up an imperial ten thrones bill*

Another quick update, my first stormtrooper and I think he has come out quite well compared to the rest. I'm going to try and give most of them the bug eyed re-breathers/respirators using slightly modded versions of the ones from the command squad kit. I should have a few more soon, as well as other pics (a lieutenant in the vein of the plasma gunner 'veteran' and the two full infantry squads). But for now, let me know what you think.

Painting and modeling updates: In a bizarre twist of fate I have something close to WIP pics, an insane prospect in a WIP blog. I've got my hands on the new Cadian Command squad and after much blu-taking have managed to get some interesting looking guys. I'm quite fond of the medic who is patching up someone who's face has been messed up in the name of the Emprah (probably going to be a running theme throughout the army, particularly with plasma gunners).

I have my fully painted infantry squad equipped with a bionic armed demolition expert (missile launcher), an extremely unhappy looking plasma gunner and a Sergeant with a lasgun (shhh, don't tell anyone!). I have given them rubble strewn bases as well as washes of dark green ink on the armour.

My formerly bright yellow stormtroopers have got a more covert colour scheme and I'm very pleased with them. I really love these old minis with their huge, bulky carapace armour and bug-eyes gas-masks. The first three are done and I am part way through my Sergeant and comms trooper.

As always advice/criticism/comments welcome .

I really like the IG commander that is standing over the ruined torso of a SM. Now I'll have to go buy an IG command squad.

Looking forward to seeing more...

I dont get what the medic is doing, can you do a close up I do like the conversions and the paint scheme

@JB - Thanks, I really like the way he has come out. Eat your heart out Lukas Bastonne, this is the new Imperial Guard poster boy!

@ghostmaker - I tried to make it look as if the medic is patching up a wounded trooper who is already sporting a bandaged arm. The medic is standing next to the kneeling guy with a badly cut up face.

I've got some more updates, sorry about the delay. I've got two members of the Command Squad painted and ready; the Company Commander and the Comms trooper. I'm very pleased with how they have turned out and I hope the rest of the command squad turn out okay. I've also made a quick, easy and cheap Officer of the Fleet (fully equipped with suitably manly mustache) from bits and bobs left over from the command squad box.
