I'll be in Boston for the summer for an internship, and was wondering where people tend to play? I know of Pandemonium near Central Square, but that's all I've heard of. Is the GW store still down in Harvard Square?
On a related note, I'll not have a car while I'm there. How do you find taking your armies on the buses or the T?

I'm in Boston too. Brookline (by Fenway) to be specific. I've had an army for a few years but never actually played. Hope to get out a few times this summer though.
One site I've been checking out is www.201mass.com for the Compleat Strategist, the place is small but it's super convenient for me. No group yet but a few guys are trying to get a club going.
I've never made it over the river to Pandemonium but I hear that's the most quality place to play.
Also, I'm pretty sure the Harvard Sq. GW closed.
Hope you enjoy the city this summer.

Harvard Square GW did close.
In the city Pandemonium is your best bet.
Shortly outside the city I've heard good things about the Toy Soldier in Amesbury.
If you have a car and don't mind a bit of a drive, we game regularly on Tuesday nights and weekends up North at The Game Castle in Londonderry, NH. It's not much above a half hour outside the city, and most of that is straight up I 93.
Alas, Danger Planet in Waltham just had to close, as their building was sold, but I understand they're shopping around for a new location. If and when they reopen, they'll probably reassert their place as the coolest place with the best tables.

For T accessible places it is pretty much just Pandemonium now. If you have a car that opens up a few more options. One is Harrison's at the Meadow Glenn Mall; however, it is a small but quality group of players.

Pandemonium is a good store and has a fair few tables, but seems to be dominated by just the one gaming club.
I just moved to Boston in December, and - looking for a game - tried to join their forums to no avail... twice. Even got in contact with their webmaster, who did exactly nothing.
And with those guys taking up all the tables you can forget about finding a pickup game.
If I sound negative it's because the whole thing stank of geek-elitism to me, and it completely put my housemate off tabletop gaming (and I was THIS CLOSE to getting him into BFG).
Sidebar: anyone in Boston want to play a game of BFG?

There is the 'Arvard 'Ard Boys in Boston. I'm sad to hear about Danger Planet, I like that place!

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness. ADB |

The Hobby Bunker in Malden was my favorite place to play in the Boston area, hands down. You can get to it via the Malden stop on the Orange T line. Used to take me a little more than an hour to get to from Brookline, door-to-door (about the same as getting to Pandemonium).

The gamers there are much more down to earth and the place is enormous, tons of gaming tables and we used to have massive mega battles every once in a while too. They also had very active WHFB and Flames of War groups as well.
