Yes I know it's probably been asked before. A search for "vehicle scale" came up with nothing but I wasn't really looking too hard.

Is there a reliable answer? I was going to kitbash a Kuttengrad and a Opel Maultier and make them into ork vehicles. (warbike and trukk in that order)

I've heard 1:35 before, is this true? Because there are 1:35 versions of both those vehicles.

There are 1:48 which I've seen to be more inline with what 40k is. The 1:35 seems a bit big, and the 1:72 is outright too small.

Surprisingly enough, I've seen quite a few more 1:48 items lately.

Are you positive? The dimensions on the 1:48 Kuttengrad said it was 2.5 inches long, which doesn't seem too bad until you try to shove a boy into the seat. P:

Nope, inches. 60 something MM. Here's the link.

http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/32502ketten&goli/index.htm

Google calculator says 64 millimeters = 2.51968504 inches.

I've wanted to use this as an Ork Trukk/Battlewagon base, but I haven't bought one yet.

It's hard to find the dimensions once it's actually put together.

I don't think it's the whole model you're looking at that's 60mm. I would assume that's the cargo/mini and the actual tracked vehicle would be a "bit" bigger making the whole train about 4-6 in long.

GW scale is heroic 28 whatever that means, but on the Tam site it says they play/build towards 28mm figs.

It says

Overall length of Kettenkraftrad: 64mm

For all I know that's INCLUDING the cargo trailer.

The cargo truck right on the front. They have an opel in there too and any of the tracked tanks would work for a base.

Hmm. Not sure then. The German Sturmgeschutz III Ausf. - B says it's 115mm long x 64mm wide so puts it roughly 2.5 by 5 in long.

Hmm . . about the size of two dreads standing next to one another. Guess not quite as big as I thought but along the lines of a rhino.

My main concern for these vehicles is if the driver will look good in position, or if he'd even fit for that matter.

Well, with wooden frames it would definitely live up to the open top/armor 10 billing

Uh.

I snooped around a little. It seems the 1:35 Opel dimensions are 4x2.

That seems really

really

really

really small.

I've heard the GW trukks are 5 3/4" X 2 1/2". So width wise it's fine but length wise i'm krumped.

Read the article here discussing vehicle scales.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Scale_Model_Kits_for_40K

For any historical vehicle you are interested in, look up the dimensions and convert by scale to see how large the model will be in 1/48 or 1/35.

There is a much larger range available in 1/35.

The long and short of it is, GW vehicle models are 1/48 long and 1/35 wide. They are also too small for the models they carry to fit in them, even though GW figures are theoretically 1/56 scale which is smaller than 1/48.

You can't get historical models which match perfectly because the GW models have distorted dimensions.

If you want to make aeroplane models, 1/48 are better than 1/35 becuase aircraft are such huge objects that in 1/35 scale they loom over the whole table. Also, there are lots more 1/48 scale models for aircraft than there are 1/35.

Orks are even larger than SMs so I think you should go for 1/35 scale vehicles.

Mod in: BTW someone said there were numerous double posts in this thread. I skimmed quickly and didn't really see it, perhaps there are numerous posts which are very similar to each other.

Anyway, if by accident you do a double-post or your browser screws up and does a double-post, it's nice to delete the duplicate.
