Subject: Question about mk2 EIrusk

I put together this small duel list for EIrusk:
EIrusk
-marauder
FullIFPs + UA
Yuri the Axe
basically it uses irusk's martial discipline ability to allow the IFPs to CMA the hell out of anything that gets close to them. I added yuri as an assassin on crack to dish out some huge damage to a tough enemy model/warcaster. The question I have is
EIrusk has a spell called fire for effect that targets a friendly faction model and boosts its attack and damage rolls for the first attack each round. Is it possible to upkeep this spell on irusk himself? If not I almost feel bad not taking a mortar or WG with rocketeers which would be a solid choice still.

Fire For Effect says "target friendly faction model". Putting it on the man himself is perfectly fine.
Note that it says "model", not "model/unit". FFE can only affect one Rocketeer per turn unless you have two separate units with Rocketeers and you cycle FFE.

It also only affects the "first ranged attack each activation". Spells are not ranged attacks.

They changed spells in MK2? I thought the rule book stated that spells are resolved in the same manner as ranged attacks and thus count as ranged attacks. This also means that spells are effected by anything that effects ranged attacks such as stealth. At least thats how the people around my area have always played it...

Depends on the wording of the effect.
Abilities such as stealth state that "Attacks from more than 5" away" or something like that.

Spells have never been ranged attacks. They count as magic attacks. Magic attacks are also affected by things like Concealment, Elevation, Screening, etc., but count as a completely different type of attack.
