I LOVE the flavor of the pirates and will be sticking with them. I need your help to make them as competitive as possible. This is my first attempt at a merc list. Any comments and / or criticism is welcome.

Sea Dog Crew - 1 Mate, 5 Swabs
-Mr. Walls

Sea Dog Deck Gun - 1 Gunner, 1 Crewman

=Solos=
Doc Killingsworth

Bosun grogspar

Master Gunner Dougal MacNaile

First Mate Hawk

My plan is as follows:
1. Use Dougal to act as loader for both Mariners. Combination of Lash and Hit the Deck means Dougal is immune to AoE.
2. Run Hawk, Doc and the Bosun all close enough to the unit of sea dogs and Mr. Walls so they all get eachother's bonuses.
3. Use Broadside to get double shots on both mariners each turn

Obviously, you're trying to use Doc to make the Sea Dog Crew's Tough a 4+ and Grogspar to keep them from being knocked down. There's just one problem with that: Sea Dog Crew don't have Tough. You need Rockbottom to make them Tough first. Drop the Deck Gun for Rockbottom and you're all set.

Models that absolutely have to die in your army (other than Bart):

Hawk
Dougall
Rockbottom

Dougall is always going to be exposed trying to be the loader for two Mariners. Just think of
how activation has to work. Advance Dougall, use Artillerist, advance mariner, fire, advance
mariner 2, fire, activate Bart, Broadside.

If you try to keep Dougall behind the Mariners, his mobility will be limited. If you try to
have him load from the front, one of my main priorities will be to hit him with direct fire.

For Rockbottom to give the Sea Dogs tough, he has to use the money. He only has so many of those.

Buffing sea dogs will be tricky. There are only 7 models in this advanced Deployment
unit, so it's hard to string them back.

I dunno, maybe I'm just talking from personal preference, but investing so many synergies
into a 6 man crew seems like asking for trouble.

Don't use the Talion Charter and put in the piper & rockbottom- they take turns making the sea dogs tough. Also look into pressgangers as they are tough and pretty nasty with hawk. Mules and Bart are made for each other too.
