Hello Dakka,
I've been preparing to start playing Battlefleet Gothic with a friend, and after a few weeks of hunting for discounts and the like, I facepalmed and realised that I had a whole bunch of left over nid bits that I could use to scratch build a fleet. I don't have very much skill in building normal models, and no skill at all in scratch building. However, they say practice makes perfect and while I don't expect the fleet to be perfect, I'll (hopefully) be a better modeler by the end of it!
I'm aiming for about 1,500 points in this fleet with a list looking something like:
1x Hiveship, maxxed out ordinance
1x Hiveship, 8-10 bio-plasma, 2-3 launch bays
2x Cruisers, 8x torpedoes each
5x Kraken, pyro-acid batteries
6x Vanguard, feeder tentacles
5x Escort Drones, 2x Bio Plasma each
My first model, frankly, doesn't look that great. But I've learned a bit, and I'll hopefully be applying that in the future. Namely, take your time. '>_>
Now, for my first Kraken:

After looking at a few fleets online, I thought I'd go with a nautical/fishy theme, as opposed to the rotting flesh/decaying bone theme that some fleets seem to have.
On a related note, anyone have ideas for fleet colors? I'd love a dark blue/grey scheme, but these are nids so I don't think that will work. Right now I'm leaning towards red/ black, black/bone white, or red/bone white.
Comments and criticism welcome!
Edit: Also, if anyone has any recommendations for supplies, that'd be great. I'm thinking about just using standard exacto-knives, although I remember reading somewhere that scalpels are actually cheaper.
