Today I just uninstalled WAR, whilst I really loved the concept of RVR, the player base ruined it for me, the greed, stupidity and inability to understand that cooperation = victory drove me nuts. I had been playing for 3 months and it's been stress more than enjoyment.
I played EQ2 for 5 years, raided high end content and enjoyed it immensely, but that game has grown old of late and SOE are a shower of spankers seemingly determined to kill it off even faster by sneak introduction of microtransaction etc and the last expansion was pants.
I would love to play a non-fantasy genre game, I do love fantasy but I've played it to death, I'd like machine guns or space ships and booze n bombs and no elfses or beardy men with staves.

Raid, RvR, nonfantasy pref

oh and not EVE, tried that, whilst beautiful I want to play a character not a spaceship.

Any ideas? I am open to suggestions for games with a near future release date.

How about RUNESCAPE.

Lord of the Rings Online. More PvE focused, but you can play a monster to kill other players if you want. Much more cooperation based and constantly updating content/storyline. If you have a decent machine it is a absolutely beautiful game as well.

Well, my plan is to wait for the Star Wars MMO to come up. Sure, Galaxies was awful, but I'm pretty pumped for TOR. It seems like the PvP especially will be classy, but I'm wondering how well they'll pull off endgame (which Conan's developers just kind of... forgot to put in the game)

I hate to say it, but there's really no "good" SciFi mmos out there right now. There's tons of free to play ones, but they're kinda garbage. In fact...outside of Eve Online, the last one I can remember is Planetside.

But yeah. Old Republic and Stargate Worlds look like they'll both be pretty awesome.

SW:TOR is about all I can suggest.

Think I will be waiting for SWTOR by the looks of it, nothing else out there appeals much, although Champions Online isn't far off and I liked CoH/V for the brief time I played it. Also being told about a fallout style post apocalypse game but that must be even further off in the pipeline.

Maybe while waiting for TOR check out fiesta online.My sister plays it,I do to although not as much.Graphics aren't great,but maybe it can keep you busy for a month or two(don't know when TOR is coming out)while you wait.

Ugh, free Korean MMO's. The market is flooded with them which is great, plenty to choose from. Sadly it's all the same, I dread the moment my brother stomps in showing off his latest crapfest.

I would definitely wait it out for Champions Online.

If you enjoyed CoH/CoV at all, imagine that with real time (!) combat, a skill system that's about ten times deeper and allows you to make a viable build consisting of literally whatever you want, and a character creation system that not only has more options, but allows you to customize your animations, powers, and even your alter ego and arch nemesis. Trust me, that's only scratching the surface.

Judging by post-CO Star Wars Galaxies, I wouldn't even go near TOR. TOR will never even come close to being the brilliant game that was the Original Star Wars Galaxies (Before the 'Combat Upgrade', which first attempted to turn it into EQ2, and is now attempting to be WoW. Both counts failed miserably). In fact, no MMO will ever come close. Of course, I suffer from Galaxies withdrawal, so playing TOR for me would probably be entirely too painful. Sounds like you missed out on SWG while it was still the best game of all time, but in the long run, consider yourself lucky. It makes me sad just to think that I'll never be able to play it again.

To tide you over on the Sci-Fi front, I'd try Anarchy Online. It's free to play, and it has tons of depth and content, if you can forgive the fact that it was released in 97.

Champions would be of interest to me, if they also do a Villains Online and we get some sweeeeet PvP, face it superheros should be slugging it out with supervillains just like in CoH/V and that's what I want.

I really hope they do this cos I'm loving the graphics for the game from what I've been seeing.

If we are also including games in development there is a Star Trek MMO in the works as well. Oddly, I believe it has the title Star Trek Online.

Dark Champions Online has been a definite goal of Cryptic Studios since the inception of Champions Online. Though you might have to wait a while after the release of Champions, you can rest assured that it will come out eventually. I'd say give it a year or so.

Hopefully there will be a more open pvp element than there was in CoH/CoV, and you can just have open pvp servers/declared pvp servers, so you don't have to go to a pvp zone to fight Heroes or Villains (even though there was some really well implemented stuff in CoV, such as missions within pvp zones that gave bonuses to your side upon completion).

In the meantime, if the aesthetic of Heroes vs. Villains is all you're looking for, the PvE will more than have you covered until Dark Champions comes out. Again, you get to customize an Arch Nemesis, and run a gauntlet of missions against them until you ultimately kill them or send them to jail.

I tried EVE, it was beautiful and boring, friends who have given it more of a go than me said it's suffering from being established, you end up a minor player in a mega corp performing menial work and frankly I can get that in my everday work.

Now if EVE the spaceship game was one half of a scifi mmo which had EVE 3rd person planetside from it's inception then I'd be prepared to take another look. But I tried the play free for several days and it was not the game for me.

If Dark Champions is being planned to go with Champions then i'm all set to be signed up for that.
