Hello. Having browsed through the many sections on Dakka and on the privateer press website about warmachine. I am quite keen to start to play warmachine! However I have no idea as to where to start (sorry if these questions have been answered else where if so you could please post a link) so here are my questions:

A) What books to I need to purchases to start off with?
B) Are there force organisation charts and the like i.e. compulsory units?
C) Do you recommend it?

Thanks Andrew

A - Warmachine Prime :Remix. But MK2 is in the works, be warned. (pick up a starter boc fro any of the factions, it contains the basic rules to get you up and running)

B - Not really, the only compulsory unit is a Warcaster.

c - I really, really do. Fast paced, simple rules, colorful units which you don't need that many of et.c.

hope this helps!

Best way to "learn" the game is to contact your local "Press Ganger", who should schedule to meet you at your LGS to demo a game. You can then bombard them with 1,000 questions. (Assuming the Press Ganger in your area doesn't suck and refuse to contact you...)

If you want to learn by hitting the tables, then the cheapest way is to simply pick up WarMachine: PRIME/REMIX ($25) to educate yourself on the rules and the style of each faction. Then either (1) start collecting miniatures or (2) get the faction deck ($15) for your faction. The deck contains the rules and stats for every model made up to (including) Superority. Buy the expansion books (e.g. Escalation, Apothosis, Superiority, & Legends) if you're interested in the fluff, each book sells for $35 retail.

I wouldn't stress too much about MK2. Avoid getting duplicate units/models and you'll be fine.

The starter books (Primal or Prime Remix) are good to get a feel for the factions.

Also agree that you shouldn't worry too much about MK2 as long as your force isn't going to contain lots of duplicates. Also check out PP site as they have dowloadable rulesets. What race are you thinking of going for?

Also I belive one of our Dakka users has a youtube channel filled with warmachine stuff so check it out,I will try to rember the name for you.

The Protectorate as any of the WM/ Hordes factions is solid choice, they rely on synergies so you have to dig some info on the figs if you want to make a army that benefits from them. Malf plays Protectorate so at least he can point you in correct direction.

Any thoughts on which warcaster you are going to pick as that affects the army and the valid unit selection a lot.

Ok, he is epic version of High Exemplar Kreoss so he can only be used in games from 750 points onwards.

This restriction is removed in Mk2 or at least it is in Field test rule set.
