Me and a friend of mine have been playing WHFB and 40k for quite some time now, but now feel that we want something different.
So we decided to try out FoW. The thing is we dont want to throw out a bunch of money just to try it.

So my question is; What is the mininum amount of units needed to play?
If he buys a Strelkiye Platoon for his Soviets and i an Infantry Platoon for my germans can we then just sit down and have a fast game just to get the feeling of it, or do we need to follow some sort of FOC?

Thanks in advance!

600 points is usually considered the minimum 'game' size one HQ, one Combat platoon and some odds and ends.

For testing out the rules the 'Open Fire!' box is probably your best bet.

To get a real feel you really need a combined arms force or things will be a bit boring. I'd recommend the open fire starter box:

and then 1 platoon of US infantry and 1 platoon of German infantry. That should give you some fun balanced games and allow you to experiment with armour, mortars, bazookas, etc. Estimated cost is just under €50. If that is too much and you already have the rules, then just a platoon of each infantry type would be ok, but it might be more interesting to get infantry with some special options like flame throwers, mortars, etc. to spice things up so that you are doing more than just moving and rolling dice.

Yea thats what we were planning!
To split the Open Fire! box, me getting the Stug's and he the Shermans (to prox as some soviet tanks).
And then buy a inf platoon each to get a combined force so we both could try out both armour and infantry.

Sorry if i mispelled something, the gf just graduated from school so im a bit drunk

You won't have to proxy, since the Lend Lease allowed the Americans to give the Soviets American war machines, weapons, materials, etc.

lol.

Good Luck with FOW!
