Hey. I have been thinking of getting into playing Warmachine.
I bought all the books except Remix, as they came out, but never played due to no players.
Now I live near a group that plays, and was thinking of joining.

How much of the massive errata do I need to read?
And is there a doc that tells what has changed from Prime to Remix?
Can I still play the game correctly with Prime and errata?

With MkII coming, I am not buying Remix, when I own Prime. If I am playing when it releases, I will pick it up.

But, in the meantime, I would like to be playing the same game that the group is playing.

Does anybody have advice?

There should be a PDF of the changes in remix.

The black and white prime errata found here contains all of the changes between Prime and Prime:Remix.

You can play with the errata and Prime, in addition I would check the errata on the models you are going to play as some of the changes in the errata are pretty substantial.

I would just wait for MKII at this point before getting in...

He already has the books, so playing Mark I isn't a problem at all.

Spending a bunch of time learning MKI and making sure your cards are up to date and swimming through a huge errata/FAQ document (over 100 pages last time i checked) only to have the bulk of the models change and rules get altered when MKII hits? I'd just wait for MKII at this point rather then learn a system your not gonna use when MKII hits in a short bit...

Short bit? He has six months of play time!

Build an army, play an army, paint in the meantime before you go crazy.

The basic combat mechanics are the same, you'll just have to relearn movement, and unit
coherency.

Then when the MKII cards come out it'll feel like getting a rules update.

I would skim through the Errata online, but you probably don't need much of it for actual play.

Thanks guys.

I will check through the Black and white errata, and check out stuff specific to my units.

I already have a Cryx force, and all the books, just never found a group to play.

A couple months is more than enough to learn a game system. Let alone 6+ months.
I don't even know if the group plans to go to MkII.
A few guys play Hordes forces, so I am sure they won't switch and make those guys wait.
I've probably got until Hordes MkII drops before they switch.

I would never advise someone to build and paint a force now knowing that a major revision of the models/units is coming in less then a year.

Some units are going to be majorly altered in form and function over how they work now, and what might be a cool unit now could be garbage in six months. Why gamble on buying/building/painting stuff now that you might not want to use in six months. I'd rather wait the six months and then base my army planning/painting on the final MKII printing that will be good moving forward (for years)...

I think the MK II changes to Hordes will be a lot less than the MK II WM changes. By Hordes, they had started figuring things out a little better and it was better balanced from the start. Plus, you already need beasts, and I'm sure in MK II, you'll still need beasts too. The difference is that some things may get their point costs tweaked to make them more or less optimal.

Eh, I'm in the same boat, and I really don't care so much for waiting 6 months. I'm not going to be going out and buying a full 1000 point army with a couple of warcasters or anything, but I will be buying the Cygnar box. A lot of middle-of-the-line choices there, and it's quite cheap, so I can get in 6 months of game time instead of uh... NOT getting in 6 months of game time? Also, the Lancer is amazing. I already have modelling supplies and paints from other games, so if all the units in the box suck after Mk. II then my entire lost investment is $37 (thewarstore) and time wasted. Oh no

If you buy models that look cool you can't go wrong and you may be pleasantly surprised in January.

You've never had a better reason to avoid buying the easy button models.

Don't worry too much about MK2. Avoid buying duplicates and you'll be fine.

Well, I got a few games in with my Cryx. Learned a few things.

At 500 pts I ran
Denegra
Slayer
2x Nightwretch
Defiler
Deathripper
Rengrave
6x Revenant Crew
Pistol Wraith

Seems the revenants are pricy. Need to be a bigger unit to absorb casualties and stick around for their abilities to kick in.
Played a game against a Stryker force and did okay, but lost.
Played a game against a Circle force and lost convincingly. He had Druids and Stones that stole Focus and Frakked up my spell abilities.
I get the feeling I am playing too agressive with my nodes. Down to one by turn 3.
I am not planning on buying anything til after the rules changeover, so I am going to live w/out thralls and just make due w/ the costly Revenants or Styxis Raiders.
I can lose every game, as long as I feel I am learning new things. There is a lot of thinking to this game WHILE you play it. Getting used to thinking about activation order is tricky. Have to learn to plan ahead.
With 40k, I usually can assign a unit a job after setup, and that is it unless they get wiped.
WM makes you reevaluate after each model's activation.
