So I've recently gotten back into 40k, and my girlfriend's relentless nagging has encouraged me to purchase a better carrying case than my trusty toolbox that has served me well for years.

I'm looking at an army that's probably going to run about 40-50 models, including 10-20 terminator-sized models. I'm also likely running 2 land raiders, 5 other tanks, and 4 speeders. So I'm going to need something with decent vehicle capability.

No problem, I see here on dakka support for Battle Foam. They're supposed to have their cases ready for this past April, just in time for me to order... except I go to their website, and their cases aren't going to be available until August, a month after I want to be using it.

Fair enough, I go to B&C after reading good reviews and find out that their bags are no longer available for order. Stellar.

I continue my search, and find out that SABOL bags have good reviews as well, although not as good as the previous two. I check warstore, and they only have the new ones, which - you guessed it - are on pre-order. Surely their website has some of the older bags available? No, of course not.

Finally, I check out the GW website for their official cases. The smaller case (Citadel Figure Case) could in no way contain my entire army, and I'd have to maul quite a few of the trays in order to get my army to fit. The larger case (Army Figure Case) could probably hold my entire army, but I'd have to do some heavy mauling to make those trays fit my 11 (minimum) vehicles. On top of that, it'd set me back $100, quite a bit more than I'd like to spend, if possible. Even then, I'm not sure they would all fit, I know the smaller case was pathetically dinky compared to the size of 40k vehicles.

TL, DR: What army bags would you suggest I get that are actually available very soon?

Edit sorry didnt read the post all the way through. Ever thought about doing a DYI style? I just use a old "tackle box" that is really not a tackle box its more plastic dividers and such. I just put a bit of bubble wrap on the inside and bam cheap, easy, and nice carrying case for all my troops.

Have you tried calling stores for the bags?

Honestly? Right off the bat, battlefoam.

I've had some troubles with them, and IMO, they aren't 100% on the ball just yet. However, they're still the best. I'm in the UK at the moment, and had to import them, but it was well worth the cost. I always get people asking me about my case in my local GW, as honestly, it's top quality stuff.

Also, if you order now, it says on the website (a Pack 432 anyway...) that it will be sent out July 1 (expect something closer to July 5-6... even 7...).

But yeah... Battlefoam. Honestly, battlefoam. You should be able to get ahold of your bag in early-mid July if you order now... so it should arrive by the time you want to use it... (one month before august IS July...)

If not, what's wrong with using your current case until the new one arrives?

What 'bout my star?~*

Try a box the size of a GW tank box. Get some simple dividers or make them out of card board. Then put in some sticky tack on the bottom which comes off easily but holds the model well enough.

Battle foam is a good tray, and waiting will only increase your happiness when it arrives.

Thanks for the ideas. I'll try calling around and if that fails, I'll DIY.

My concern with my current box is that it's just that - a box. Models easily slide around, pieces breaking off, paint chipping etc.

I don't have a problem waiting for a nice case, but I'd prefer something to hold me over at least, if possible.

I ordered my first battle foam bag online, with the custom load out. I picked my foam, and anxiously awaited. A month later (last tuesday) my 1520 arived, and i proceded to fill it up in about one hour, emptying 4 cases and several boxes. It is amazing. I ordered more foam the next day, as apparently I have tons upon tons of figures. I like the battle foam because I don't have to cut anything to get my models to fit, i just have to order the right tray. This is especially good as i have 20+ terminates and other large creatures, 2 landraiders, 5 rhinos, and several dreadnoughts. Battle foam has a tray for everything. I am a believer.

The operator who took my phone order for the additional foam said that there is a two week turnaround for foam, and about 1 month for bags, but IMO it is well worth the wait.

Looks like I'll have to get Battle Foam on the line then. Thanks again for the responses.
