We were playing a Capture and Control mission with a number of small Imperial cathedral chunks in a dense forest (Dangerous and Difficult Terrain, LoS Blocking) and a wrecked Land Raider (Dangerous and Difficult, LoS Blocking). The table was well over a quarter covered as this was the Nid players first game and I wanted him to have an easy go of things; I also built his list to give him an idea of where to start.
Deployment
He won the roll to go first and placed one group of gaunts behind his objective and his other group with his warriors behind it just out of a crater placed to charge my objective. I placed my HQ behind my objective, the dual melta Chimera very near to my objective, and my other chimera placed to rush his objective. I manged to steal initiative.
Turn 1
I rolled my Demolisher on in the middle of the table and moved my outer chimera forward and towards the middle so I could kill his warriors easier. I thought I might be in flamer range so I tested with the vets flamer and wasn't in range, so I fired on his warriors with 6 lasgun shots, and a melta shot from the vets, as well as the multilaser on the chimera; this killed two warriors. I fired with 5 lasgun shots, and my multilaser from the other chimera and killed the last warrior. My Demolisher scattered and only manged to kill one gaunt.
He moved his Flyrant on the table and advanced his one forward gaunt squad towards my forward chimera along a crater. His Flyrant did a ton of damage to my chimera between shooting and assaulting, but couldn't finish it and that was all he could do.
Turn 2
My Demolisher pushed forward to get a clear shot on the exposed gaunts and my immobilized chimera popped smoke. My healthy chimera and its squad put a single wound on the Flyrant and my Demolisher cleaned out the exposed gaunt squad. (I think I should have disembarked my guard from the wounded chimera this turn and tried for an extra wound on his HT.)
He redeployed his WoN gaunts and moved them toward his HT, his stealers came in near mt Demolisher I don't remember exactly how this turns shooting and assaulting went for him, but my busted chimera was finally killed and my guards somehow surrived the HT's assault and his stealers stunned my Demolisher.
Turn 3
I moved my chimera near my objective up so I could clear the stealers with the HF and then I wiped them clean in my shooting. My assaulted guardsmen lost another man and stayed in the fight yet another round.
He multi-charged my tied up guardsmen with some gaunts and that cleared out my guardsmen with him only lossing a single gaunt before I was mopped up.
Turn 4
I pulled my chimera back and my dice failed me by noting putting another wound on his HT with all of my remaining shooting.
His HT stunned my chimera and pulled all of its weapons off and his gaunts moved forward.
Turn 5-7
My diced failed me here and I pulled my forces back to my home objective, the only wound inflicted towards him here was a failed dangerous terrain check that took another wound from his HT. I still managed a draw with skillful maneuvering to make sure that he couldn't kill my remaining vets and my Demolisher at once while keeping his gaunts outside my objective.
Thoughts
If I had to redo the fight again with the same list, I would have set my second Chimera near my objective as well and used the Demolisher to attempt to reach his objective. If I was allowed to make some changes to my list, the CCS would have special weapons, and the Demolisher would be replaced with a Banewolf to free up points for the aforementioned weapons.
