Subject: Aldaris, the fight for Freedom

well here's my background for my IG army.
Aldaris, A tiny little planet on the eastern fringe of the Ultima Segmentum. The planet was first settled in M35. It was to be both a mining base and an agricultural center. The reason for this was Aldaris’s unique makeup which created a planet of temperate nature. Scattered with large, high density ore deposits, the planet seemed like a paradise.
A short few hundread years after the colonization of Aldaris a large warp storm cut all contact with the imperium. Worse yet, a series of bureaucratic errors and snafus, led to all the data of the planet being lost. All alone in the middle of nowhere a famine struck Aldaris, wiping out half of the crops. The corrupt governor Markus hoarded all the wealth and food for the upper class, and select parts of the military.
A riot ensued among the lesser citizens and markus saw fit to regain control with an iron fist. A massacre in a city called He’in, he thought would quell the riot. He was proven wrong however when a full scale revolt erupted. After Markus’s death at the hands of the 88th Aldarian Phoenix Missile Artillery Company, the rebels quickly gained control.
For a millennium Aldaris suffered with drought, plague and civil war. The planet almost died, and nearly all knowledge of the imperium was lost. By 776 M37 The planet had Bounced back to it’s former glory. A democratic government was installed, and cities flourished. People Began to think, and experiment. Science was rediscovered and replaced the old religions. The war machines left over from the war for independence were no longer revered as majestic beasts but great machines. And whatever remnants remained were treasured and studied. The people once again enjoyed an industrial era style life.
By M40 the Aldarians had advanced quite a lot in such a short time, and in 91 M40 The Aldarian began trading with an upstart civilization known as the Tau. However unbeknownst to the Aldarians the Imperium is drawing near, and the tau are pressuring the Aldarians to join in the “greater good”. The storms of war are brewing, for should the Aldarians accept, they will surely be slaves to the tau, and should they resist it will mean war.
Okay bear with me, I’m not a master of writing or a great master of fluff, so please be merciful. More to come and edits to the original as well.

Yeah it would be fun. So you have a marine army that's independant from the imperium?
anyway
And the wait is over, if you like me enjoy technical jargon you will enjoy this. If not, the feel free to skip on down to the notable Aldarians section.
Aldarian Tech
Infantry Weapons
Lasgun: The Weapon used in ancient times and known as the Laser rifle on Aldaris. Around M38 or about 3000 A.I. (After Independence) the few remaining lasguns on Aldaris were studied and copied. It took over 100 years for the Aldarian to completely understand the device, and ever since copies of the Cadian pattern lasgun have been used due to the sheer resilience and reliability of the weapon, as well as the destructive power and reduced logistics that go along with it. Still the weapon carries the stigma of being a weapon of what has become known to the Aldarians as “the oppressors”
BR-3 Series: As advanced as the Aldarians are their current state of the art production model infantry rifle that is not a simple copy of Imperial technology is the BR-3C Viper assault rifle. It is a 6.5 mm Assault rifle similar to old autoguns known in the imperium. However a main difference came when the Aldarians faced war with an alien pirate clan. The large alien’s simply ignored the new assault rifle rounds. Not willing to switch entirely over to the old lasgun due to the stigma, Aldarian engineers developed the 6.8mm BR-3T Wyvern Assault rifle which uses THV ammunition that produces a sever shockwave in soft tissue with good penetrating power. The wounds caused by the Wyvern are comparable to those of the lasgun or better.
GR-5 Series: Known as the roar of the dragon, the GR-5 is a 10mm rotary barreled gatling gun A heavy weapon used as an anti-infantry machinegun. It is comparable in use to the Heavy Bolter of the imperium firing at over 6000 RPM. A larger 20mm version is in development but having serious Technical Difficulties.
Vehicles
MBT-1: Known as the guardian, Roughly equivalent to the vanquisher with slightly less penetrating power. (of interesting note is the fact that the Aldarians have no equivalent to the standard Leman Russ Battle Tank, reserving the big high explosive shells for dedicated artillery)
XM-232 Ragnarok: Developed from the manticore, and merged with captured Tau technology, the 232 is a missile artillery unit that can load a variety of warheads.
Stationary Defenses
Gamma Ray Laser (GASER): after a brutal battle with alien pirates, the Aldarians built 5 GASER platforms across the planet for defense against alien ships. Each powered by three reactors, each of which powerful enough to keep a city running, the GASER’s can safely protect Aldaria out to a range of a few thousand kilometers. They pack a punch strong enough to ward off most ships that would stray their way.
Space forces
The Aldarains have no space forces.
Notable Aldarians
Bastion, 88th Aldarian Phoenix company- Known as the man who freed Aldaria, Bastion switched sides half way through the war at the battle of He’in Highlands. By his trickery, Markus and his entire baneblade company (three stormlords and three shadowsords) were wiped from the face of the planet. It would be another three years before they marched up to the capital and claimed victory, but it would be Bastions cunning that brought them there. The Phoenix company itself was comprised only of nine Manticores and two Deathstrikes. They were to be sent off to the edges of the Ultima Segmentum but fate decided otherwise.
Saito Kahn, 87th Aldarian Thunderhammer company- Even before the war for independence Saito had made a name for himself fighting the enemies of the imperium. A personal friend to the hero Bastion, he spent a good portion of the war trying to avoid fighting him. During the war Saito switched sides the instant the war started to help fight for his brethren. In his words “My loyalty lies to my people, not the governor, not the Imperium, not even to the Emperor.” The seeds of decent had long been brewing on Aldaria, it was only when Markus decided to make an example out of He’in that the rebels could no longer hold back. Saito led the Thunderhammer Company, an anti-tank company comprised of his personal Vanquisher, and Nine Leman Russes. He became a symbol for the uprising, a hero who turned on Markus to lend a hand to those in need. At the battle of He’in Highlands two years after the start of the war, they defeated the Emperor’s Guardians, Markus’s own Company of loyal troops, and allowed the 88th Phoenix regiment to Destroy the gathering reinforcements at He’in Ridge. After he death many years after the war, his Vanquisher was adorned with gold and placed near his grave as a shrine to all who lost their lives in the war.
Anastasia, 57th Warhawks Mounted Elite company- Nine chimeras ten squads, and 100% guts. The warhawks were to be the backbone of the Combined arms strike force that was made of the 57th, 87th, and 88th companies. They held the ground, captured the bases and defended the Thunderhammer and the Phoenix companies. Like Saito, Anastasia Joined the rebellion as soon as it started, unlike waiting to see if the rebellion had a chance for success like Bastion.
Commander Alexander, 88th Phoenix Company- Alexander is the commander of what is called the 88th Phoenix Company, which is really just the reborn Combined arms force from nearly 6000 years past. He is responsible for driving out the pirates, and is now forming a plan to resist the tau subjugation.

I love this backround! It's great!
I had often thought about an IG army that fought more out of loyalty to their people (who consider everyone in the imperium to be thier people, not just the world) rather than a blind devotion to the Emprah (Emprah forgive my heresy).
This really is great!
