Anyone play this? I tried it out for the first time last night (and well into this morning). It is pretty awesome! I played as the Russians but had my arse handed to me because I didn't think things through enough.

Its a World War II game where one side plays the Russians and the other side plays the Germans (along with some Axis forces). Its played on hexagons and uses little cardboard counters.

I haven't played this particular game, but I do play a decent bit of some of the newer hex and counter wargames. I'm not much in to a lot of the older classic designs from the 70s and 80s (mostly because I wasn't around playing games then.)

I generally prefer the tactical or operational scale for my games though.

I don't think I have Strategic scale wargame, except for Twilight Struggle, but that's a fairly non-traditional wargame in that you don't really have units fighting it out. It's about the Cold War and instead the USA and USSR players duke it out over "influence" in the various countries on the board. Excellent game, btw.

I suppose one could call Risk a strategic scale wargame, but well. Heh.

I prefer boardgames to tabletop miniatures as well. I wanted to start Flames of War until I took a look at the ruleset, ugh. Everything I didn't want in a WW2 tactical game was present.

Played this again this past Friday. Same results. I really gotta work on slowing down and measuring all my options. Next go around with this game I might be trying the Germans.
