So i was reading through Xenology, and here's an interesting tidbit from the Hrud section...
They have it that at the dawn of time their race was created by a pantheon of benevolent gods (Slai-haii, or 'most ancient') who intended them to back in the sun and be fruitful. All this changed when the deities entered a ruinous war with the Yamm-kheh ('mirror-devils') and were variously slain, crippled, or forced to flee. According to the Hrud, only one of their gods remained: Qah - 'he who lingers'. This solitary godhead, recognising the danger his beloved children were in, changed the Hrud into the nocturnal scavengers we know today. Curiously, around 500,000 years ago, Qah disappeared...
It goes on to talk about a time of reckoning, with a big apocalyptic war between the Slai-haii and the mirror devils. But then, EVERY army in
40k has this story.
So ANOTHER ancient servant race of the old ones? Still worshipping their Old One god? Their new snakelike appearance in the Xenology picture? They like to bask in the sun? Same basic history as the Eldar?
Sounds to me like this is a retcon of the Old Slaan (
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Slann). Even more so when you consider that their gods were called 'Slai-haii'. The name 'Qah' even sounds kinda aztec, which was the theme for the Rogue Trader-era Slann...
Lizardmen in Space army, anyone? Counts as Eldar?
