Tower of Power

I had a in-house test game with the missus, I had the new I.G army and she played the so far undefeated Imperial Fists, the Fists had played 5 games won 4 and drew one. Looks to be tough for the Guard, but should be interesting.
Terrain was setup with a Planetstrike bastion in the centre with lascannon, only troops can claim this but they can use the lascannon using their own BS. A manufactorum ruin was placed towards the I.F deployment zone and a administratum ruin placed in the Fists deployment zone, but on the other side of the board. The Guard had a basilica ruin and plenty of craters - not too good for vehicles, but should be fun!
Games was Annilation and deployment is pitched battle.

Deployment
The Fists deployed with two Razorbacks in cover behind the manufactorum, the two Land Raiders with both Terminator units in the middle in the open and the solo Razorback supporting the Sternguard Rhino, which was in cover in the administratum. The marine spilt into combat squads, one squad setup in a crater, the other in the administratum and the other was behind the manufactorum using it to block line of sight. All units started in transports.
Guard deployed heavily in one area putting two Demolishers and two Chimeras with the Veterans together. Using the bastion to block line of sight the Devil Dogs setup and the Hellhounds setup the other side in the open ready to burn the crater combat squad. The solo Demolisher deployed the side of the basilica with a Chimera, the demo vets on foot behind it. The command squad and heavy bolter vets took up position in the basilica ruin. All units started in transports.
Turn 1
All Razorbacks and Rhino popped smoke. Rocket launcher squad behind the manufactorum run right up to the ruins base. Captains Land Raider moves 6” hammer Terminators Land Raider passes a difficult terrain test going over a crater.
Captains Land Raider fires at devil dog and score no damage. Hammer Terminators Land Raider fires at one of the Hellhounds and misses. Crater rocket launcher squad fires at one Devil Dog and scores crew stunned result. Combat squad in the administratrum scores a weapon destroyed result and the same Devil Dog.
The paired Russes move forward 6”,one Chimera moves through difficult terrain, the operational Devil Dog also moves through difficult terrain towards the Captain’s Land Raider. One Hellhound is immobilised on difficult terrain, the other Hellhound moves forward. The solo Russ moves forward 6” and the supporting Chimera moves along side it with the demo Veterans receiving the order move move move and moving a total of 8”.
The two Russes fire on the paired Razorbacks, one suffers crew stunned only and the second shot scatters and hits the side armor, but the Razorback passes the cover save. Devil dog fires at the Captains Land Raider but scatters. The snipers in the Command Squad at the combat squad in the administratrum and score fire one wound. The solo Russ fires at the hammer Terminators Land Raider, but scatters and misses.
Turn 2
The paired Razorbacks move in front of the two Russes, only 4” in front of them, the combat squads inside bail out. The Captains Land Raider holds position. The solo Razorback moves in front of the operational Hellhound and the Rhino moves and blocks the solo Demolisher.
One of the Russes in the pair suffers a immobilized result from a hit from the Captains Land Raider. One of the Chimeras supporting the two Russes is immobilised by a meltagun shot. The same Chimera is hit by the Captains Land Raider as it spilt fired and scores another immobilised result, now turning into a weapon destroyed result and the multi laser is gone.
The pair of Russes don’t move, though one is now immobilized. The still moving Chimera supporting the two Russes moves 6” and passes a terrain test ok. Both Devil Dogs move 6” and pass difficult terrain tests with no problems. The Hellhound moves 6”, and the solo Russ moves 6” once the Chimera at the side moves 12” out the way. The demo vets move 6” towards the Sternguards Rhino.
The pair of Razorbacks are both hit by one Russ demolisher shot, both suffer crew shaken and 2 marines from each squad are killed. Second Russ fires at the two Razorbacks and lands on target, kills one marine and immobilises one Razorback. The Chimera which went through terrain fires its multi laser kills one marine from one of the combat squads outside the Razorbacks. Two more Marines are killed by meltagun fire from the immobilised Chimera and the combat squad is wiped out. Captain’s Land Raider suffers a crew stunned by Devil Dog melta cannon, multimelta does nothing the other Devil Dogs multimelta also causes no damage. Hellhound torches two Marines in the crater, the heavy bolter from the Hellhound misses. Hammer Terminators’ Land Raider is destroyed by the solo Leman Russ Demolisher, it explodes 5” hits nothing and the Terminators take no wounds. Snipers score no kills nor does the vet heavy bolters.
The Demo Veterans charge the Sterguanrds Rhino and it is wrecked.
Turn 3
The surviving combat squad from the pair of Razorbacks takes and fails a leadership test but cannot fallback as blocked by tank. The Captain and Terminators disembark, the Captains spilts from the unit and heads towards the weapon destroyed Devil Dog as the Terminators move by the other Devil Dog. The Captain’s Land Raider moves 6” to get line of sight on both Leman Russ Demolishers. The power fist combat squad disembarks and moves 6” towards the solo Russ.
Manufactorum combat squad fires a krak rocket at the immobilised Chimera, and misses. Captains Land Raider scores a crew shaken result on one of the Russes and spilts fire at fires at a Devil Dog but misses.r hits. Combat squad in the administratrum hits the Chimera supporting the solo Leman Russ and scores weapon destroyed - bye bye multi laser. Eight Demo vets are killed by Sternguard with dragon rounds! The meltagun from the power fist combat squad misses the solo Russ despite being 1” from it!
The fully armed Devil dog is destroyed by Terminators, it explodes one Terminator takes a amour save and passes. Other Dog is crew shaken by the Captains relic blade. The Hellhound is wrecked by the hammer Terminators. The power fist Marine sergeant charges the solo Russ but scores no damage.
The last intact Chimera is immobilised on terrain, the Veterans inside bail out and run to bastion. Veterans in the Chimera with the solo Russ bail out and enter the bastion. The Demo Veterans pass a morale test and the solo Russ moves back 6.
One Russ fires at the Captains Land Raider the shot scatters and lands on the last Dog and destroys it only weapon, the multimelta! The other Russ lands on target and kills two Terminators after they fail cover saves. Immobilised Chimera on the terrain kills the last combat squad with the pair of Razorbacks with multi laser fire. Veterans still in the first immobilized Chimera fire at the Razorback and all meltagun shots miss! The lascannon on the bastion fires at the Captains Land Raider and misses. Veterans in the bastion fire at the hammer Terminators but all saves are made. The solo Russ fires at power fist marines, it scatters 1” and kills four Marines. The Chimera supporting the solo Russ kills power fist sergeant with multi laser fire. One Sternguard is killed by Demo Veterans flamer. Heavy bolter Veterans pass leadership for order first rank fire second rank fire but score no kills on the Sternguard.
The two Demo Veterans charge the Sternguard, but they both die! Sternguard consolidates towards rear of the solo Leman Russ Demolisher.
Turn 4
The combat squad by the administratum move through the ruin onto the upper levels rolling a 6” to get a better view. The Captain rolls a double 1 for difficult terrain test and doesn’t move far, the Terminators however rolled a 6 and the Land Raider passes its terrain test ok. Hammer Terminators move towards bastion with intention of bringing it down. The Sternguard move rear to rear of the solo Demolisher getting the combi meltas ready.
One of the pair of Razorbacks targets the Veterans on foot moving towards the bastion and kills one after cover saves as the Terminators gave cover. The Land Raider fails to damage either Demolisher. The solo Razorback fires at the Command squad and scores no kills after cover saves. The Sternguard destroy the solo Demolisher with two combi melta shots. Combat squad in the administratrum fire a frag rocket at the Command squad, scores two wounds but no kills. Crate combat squad fire a krak at the last Devil Dog and wreck it.
Terminators assault the first immobilised Chimera and wreck it. Hammer Terminators wreck the bastion.
Veterans now out the Chimera move towards the manufactorum, the other Veterans which were going to the bastion move to backup the other vets which were in the bastion before the hammer Terminators wrecked it. The last Chimera rotates on the spot to bring full fire power to the Sternguard.
One Demolisher fires at the Terminators and kills two the other Demolisher fires at the Captain in terrain and lands on target, the Captain fails cover save and is instantly killed! The Veterans by the manufactorum target the Captains Land Raider, only one meltagun hits but it is destroyed and no guard are killed in the blast! The last Terminator is killed by multi laser fire from the Chimera grounded on the terrain. The hammer Terminators loose two models after meltagun
Turn 5
The Sternguard move at the side of basilica.
Two Veterans from the unit which destroyed the Captains Land Raider are killed by fire from the two Razorbacks, another four are killed by combat squad in the manufactorum. The grounded Chimera is wrecked by krak rocket. The solo Razorback fires at Chimera and scores weapon destroyed.
The Hammer Terminators kill 4 Veterans, they fail their leadership test and fall back 11”. The Sternguard charge the heavy bolter Veterans and Command squad, one Sternguard is killed though seven Veterans are slain. The unit fails a morale test and is destroyed by sweeping advance!
The remaining veterans which destroyed the Captains Land Raider move to the side of one of the Razorbacks. The still moving Russ moves and targets the Sternguard. The Veterans which failed leadership in close combat against the hammer Terminators pass to regroup. The last battered Chimera rotates and targets the hammer Terminators.
The immoblised Demolisher hits three Marines in the manufactorum, but all pass cover saves. The Veterans fire at the Razorback and score crew stunned and weapon destroyed. One hammer Terminator is killed by lasgun fire from the two units of Veterans together by the bastion ruin. All Sternguard, except one is killed by Leman Russ.
Turn 6
The single hammer Terminator moves towards a unit of Veterans
A krak rocket from the combat squad in the manufactorum kills two Veterans attacking the Razorback. Frag fired from the squad in the administratum and kills also another two Veterans attacking the Razorback. The last Sternguard fires dragon bolts at the closest Veteran unit and, misses.
Two Veterans getting hammered by the last hammer Terminator. They fail leadership test and fall back 9”.
Veterans which got battered by the single hammer Terminator fallback 7” as cannot regroup as under half strength and Sternguard model is close by. The Demolisher which destroyed most of the Sternguard moves back to take out the Marines in the manufactorum.
The Razorback still with working weapons out of the pair is destroyed by meltagun fire from the two remaining Veterans. One Russ kills one Marine in the manufactorum, the other scatters and misses. Heavy bolters on the only Chimera fails to wound the last hammer Terminator.
Turn 7
The solo hammer Terminator moves towards the other unit of Veterans by the bastion ruin.
Marines in the manufactorum fire at a Russ but no good. The last Razorback kills 2 Veterans, softening them up for the single Terminator. The last Chimera suffers a crew stunned result.
Hammer Terminators charges the Veterans, and is killed!
Veterans falling back finally go off the table. Veterans which had been taking out Razorbacks move towards the manufactorum.
The two Russes kill all Marines in the manufactorum. The last Sternguard killed by meltaguns from the Veterans.

Really enjoyable game and first time seeing what Guard can do with the new codex. Some thoughts though:
Guard work a lot better as all Mech.
The Demo Vets didn't do much damage, just managed to take out a Rhino and 10 guys with melta bombs and a demo charge is a bit over the top, though only a few managed to hit the Rhino.
Command squads needs to be mobile, the orders don't really work when static, but won't matter much in my new all mech guard. Veterans with the heavy bolter baby sitting the Command squad were just a waste of points and to take wounds - they just got battered in assault by Sternguard.
Hellhounds aren't that good as you can over shoot with the flamer templates due to being 12" away from the turret. Only one Hellhound managed to fire and that was once, a bit cack really.
Veterans in Chimeras are ace - until they get out- Chimeras and good things though
I'm going to do a new list, add more Devil Dogs as the melta weaponary on those is great. Give the Command squad some armour and better weapons, the snipers aren't that good. And drop the too many troops and go for some Storm Troopers in a Chimera, some ap3 weaponary would be good to deny Marine saves.
