I posted this at PortMaw as well but thought I would give Dakka a try, as it looks that there are a few BFG experts in this forum. My friend and I are making the dive into BFG and need a bit of help.

We are wanting to start two fleets; I would be collecting straight Marines and he will be collecting Chaos Space Marines. We want forces that will compete against each other (We don't really care if they compete as 'all comers'). We are open to use whatever ships suggested although we would like to have one 'major' ship as our flagship. For example;

Marines: Battle Barge
Chaos: Chaos Battleship

Other than that (and torpedo spam), we are open to suggestions. Also, it looks as if the typical battle size is around 1500ish? So I guess suggestions along those lines. Thanks!

First off, I'd suggest Imperial Navy to Space marines. The SM fleet is very specialized, powered towards planetary assaults but at a disadvantage for fleet engagements.

That said, here's some ideas at 1000 points:

Space Marines
Battle Barge(425)
3x Strike Cruiser(290)
3x Sword RSV(120)
2x Firestorm RSV (90)
Master of the Fleet w/ extra re-roll (75)

Chaos
Styx heavy cruiser (275)
Repulsive grand cruiser (230)
2x Carnage class cruiser (360)
Warmaster w/ Mark of Nurgle (135)

Chaos side should take some escorts-"fluff wise" they make great raiders.
of course even using a Marine ship-converted to chaos also looks good. just take out the Imperial eagles.

If you want to use Space Marines I would suggest using the Imperial fleet from Armada.
That one allows you to use Imperial & Space marine ships (as Space Marines, as a fleet, are handicapped in many ways)

Armada also has a Chaos fleet that is more reflective of a Chaos Fleet headed by Traitor Marines, rather than traitor navy.

Hi,

I'm assuming the Imperial Lists PDF covers Armada, as I see it allows both Imperial and Marine ships to be taken together. Provided I do both Imperial/Marine, but insist on my Flagship being a Battle Barge, what would you suggest in points of 125-1500? Thanks!
