I don't see any recent threads.
I'm starting Yu-Jing with a new gaming group, and I picked up the new Oniwaban model as my first "test piece" for a color scheme and to get a feel for the models. I just liked him because he looks cool, but apparently he's the most broken unit ever per the crowd at the LGS when I picked him up. So anyway, anyone have any tips for starting out Infinity?
Let's get a good discussion going.

Infinity is very intimidating for me.
They are so well sculpted that i know my painting will not be worthy.
They are expensive , but for once i think the sculpt is so well done that it.... err its tolerable.

Uhm, how are they any more expensive then any of the other games running around right now? The starter boxes are 40-50, and the blisters are 10-15, and the box sets are 30-40, just like any of the other games. If anything, I'd say Infinity may actually be cheaper, since a starter box plus a TAG and another blister can very easily be 300 points, the standard game size. That's less than 100 dollar buy in, about half as expensive as GW or PP.
AT-43 notwithstanding with the new army boxes....

Well, I think LunaHound was pointing out the fact that there are no plastic figures for Infinity.
So while you only get 3 foot soldiers at 9 pounds for a blister pack of "Ariadna Line Kazaks" (3 pounds per figure), you can get 10 foot soldiers at 17.50 pounds for a box of plastic "Space Marine Tactical Squad" (1.75 pounds per figure).
I know that it's not fair comparing plastics against metal, but at least with GW you have the option to buy plastic figures.
So if we just consider the number of models, it would be more expensive to build a similar-sized force in Infinity.
Guess it would be similar to how starting a Sisters of Battle (metal-heavy) army would be more expensive than a Space Marine (lots of plastics) one.

I'll just toss out that I'm back to giving Infinity a very serious look, as of last night when I found out a local dude and his friends are starting it up. I've been building, painting and playing fantasy pretty solid this summer, and once I get these ogres finished up I really need some sci-fi action - and we're not talking sci-fantasy 40k nonsense
I settled on Nomads at last, I think they've got the most models I'd like to paint and run. My starter 200 point list is kinda sub-par I guess, but I really just don't want to run a multi-spectral visor HMG intruder ...
Do you have a plan for your starter force WD? Boxed set + few blisters ftw? I tried to stick with that - even if I'm not a fan of the Nomads box - so I could get cheap troops and cheap models at the beginning.

Still not accurate because as I pointed out, less than 100 dollars is 300 points, which is a standard sized game. And the rules are free. Infinity is cheaper.
@Boss Salvage,
Next time I head up to the local store I'll be picking up the Yu-Jing starter box. I'm thinkin' that 200 points will be more than plenty for the time being as our group starts out, and I've heard that each of the starter boxes comes with 1 really beatstick unit. I don't know anything about it yet, I just know that we're trying it out, so I'm game.
I'm excited, but I can't figure out a color scheme! The models are so different style-wise then anything I'm used to, so I'm trying to think of a good "realistic" color scheme that doesn't end up looking too garish or bland.

I feel you there, especially with the neon-haired ultra-colorful Nomads from the studio. Boringly, my squad will probably get the same muted scheme as my CSM, but then I really like painting it so
For the hell of it, I'm thinking my 200 is ...
Mobile Brigada - LT
Mobile Brigada - HMG
Alguacil - HMG
Alguacil - Paramedic
Alguacil
Alguacil
Morlock - AP CCW
Morlock - Chain Rifle
Zero
Tomcat
Lots of dudes, some killy tools, an infiltrator, a drop trooper, and all pretty sweet minis.
Oh, and if you haven't seen it yet, check the online Infinity AB. The above list is here.

The individual figures are often expensive but you only need about a dozen for an "army".

Actually, Miniature Market has a decent price on everything, and really, my one single fig, the Oniwaban (who is broken aparently) and the starter box only cost me 50 dollars. That coupled with the rules downloaded from the Infinity website means that I'm ready to play 200 points right away.
And really, the individual figures are 10 dollars retail, which is the same as most comparable GW figures with the exception of special characters, so I'm not sure where everyone gets the "expensive" vibe from.
