First time poster longish time lurker.
My interest in 40k has been a strange one. I prefer the actual aesthetics of the game rather than the game itself.
Inducted into the hobby by wandering into my local GW store after seeing a display of SM and Tyranids in what
looked like a scene from Aliens.
I have never really collected a full army, picking up random models/codexes along the way, mostly due to funds.
However with a job, even although part time, came money. I slowly began to gain interest in 40k again. So after
a few years break i had glimpsed the newly released chaos models. I had always loved the old codex
(the one before the current one) due to the sheer customizability of the forces present. I picked up the current
one and began reading through it. I noticed there wasnt as much love in it as the last.
Some potential remained so i have chosen to create a Night Lords themed army. Not the most original, but i love
the models (well heads). As i have been into more the look of the game system rather than the rules im not to up to date
with the current rules, i will pick them up quickly enough im sure. I really have just come here for advise from what
seems to be a solid and friendly community, hoping you will steer me in the right direction away from potential failness.
Be Gentle....

The Dakka community is a good one. I lurked for a long time and have learned a many good things and had seen questions raised, discussed, and answered that I didn't even know people should or would be asking.
There will be no failness. You are in good hands.
Folly that you should fall to Chaos though, Heretic. Purge the unclean for the Emprah! *sets this thread on fire*

Welcome to dakka.
As a chaos player that started playing with the last codex, and that saw his army get nerfed big time with the current codex, I still have to say that I like the new codex better. There was a lot of fluff from the last codex that I didn't like so much and I think the new codex is a little more balanced.
It's also competitive with a few different builds, although most people think you have to use a dual lash list to be competitive.
Playing chaos also gives you a lot of modelling opportunities, so if you're into doing conversions you've picked a good army.

You're going to see a lot of general teeth-gnashery over the CSM codex, but, take what you have, research the old skool fluff, and show us a neat army with an awesome background.
Welcome to Dakka!

Cheers for the welcome fine peoples of dakka. I should be a more active community member in the following weeks as my chaos project should be starting soonish. I just need to get my money back from that blasted taxman, if possible. If not, I shall start it anyway.
Once again, cheers
