I was wondering is there some hard rules somewhere for what you can do for making your own home brew Space Marine Chapters? My more specific concern has to do with the "named" characters from the various marine Codices. I can easily see that you can mix and match all the men out of the new marine codex, say Marneus and Vulkan, but could you mix up and have people from some of the other MEQ codex books, like Dark Angels or Blood Angels? Could i make an army where my librarian uses the "Mephiston" profile from the Blood Angels book while i have "Vulkan" as my Chapter master?

In a related question when it comes to converting models how far will WYSIWYG go in tournaments? The idea i had for converting a MEQ army would be to model all the soldiers after the Coalition States army from the Rifts RPG. Standard deadboys would be my tac/assault marines, my terminators would look like Juicers, Dreads would look like a Super-SAMAS, etc. Because of the extent of the conversion and explaining what you're seeing and what you're getting, would it be tournament playable or mostly restricted to friendly/casual play?

Basicly if your playing a special codex like DA, BA or SW then you cant use characters from any other book, same applies for vanilla codex you get no characters from the DA, BA or SW codices.

however you can mix characters from the same books such as vulkan and marneus, fluffwise its a stupid unless they are only countas characters (ie your own characters that you have made up but use the rules for vulkan and marneus).
