Does anyone know if there is any fluff in the Imperial ARmoury or elsewhere about the Ultramarines planetary defense army. I know that from fluff they maintain a regiment of Imperial Guardbut was unsure of the colours.
Anyway any help?

Now, being quite the fluff Nazi, I wouldn't normally say this, but...
Feth the fluff. My IG regiment is the 1st Ultramar Regiment, they have little U's and everything.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

I'm not aware of any canon on the Ultramr PDF, but Blue, White and Gray seem fitting.

One of the regiments is pictured in one of the Apoc books; reload I think. They used a sort of cream coloured camo.
I will try and find it, then edit this post

Yes, they exist. Mauleed used to have an Ultramar PDF army. I think he used tan cloth and blue body armor for the Cadians. iirc, they do not supply troops to the IG (for deployment elsewhere), but they have their own PDF. I think they are mentioned in the Battle for Macragge fluff, and as Eddin says, I think they helped defend the northern bases (this is when the entire First Company died to a man).

First battle report in the apocalypse book was ultramarines/IG defending the polar defense fortress from tyranids.
They used valhallans to represent the polar defense garrison. Less of a fluff reason and more of a 'what was in the cabinet' reason.
The fluff surrounding the cadian flak armor and helmet is that it is the most ubiquitous kit in the galaxy. Basically if your planet doesn't make its own flak armor/rifle/helmet, then you are going to look like a cadian. You can't go wrong if you paint up some cadian models to represent a pdf.
Outside of that, if you are looking for inspiration on how to convert or model your own, I'd say to match their camo pattern with whatever region of ultramar they are garrisoned to defend. If its the polar fortress, long coats are recommended. Sergeants can have laurel wreaths on their heads, signifying their roman-ness, there is a laurel wreath on the command squad sprue, and a great head wearing a laurel wreath and with a goatee on the empire knight sprue.

Yeah, I am digging through the lexicanum right now for info; I'd really like to just get a good "color" scheme for them.
I've actually been looking at Space Marine Scouts and converting them for their armour or mix of that.
I am almost positive Ultramar has is own " uniqueness".
Also, reading about ultramar it has rather a feudal / noble class. In fact people are proud that their sons go to Ultramarines and its a huge " boost" in status to have a famous Ultramarine hero in the family.
So I was thinking of more of a Mordian look really.
What about mordian I think that fits very well with a more "noble" unit.
