Nayl's thing only goes off when he dies, not when he kills. Still sick but tamer.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

Such are the perils of reading internet spoilers. They are never 100% accurate the first time around.
If can devote the resources, I will be throwing Nayl away from my warcaster anytime I see him on the table.

That's good. I was about to cry about the Retribution completely breaking the game system.

And here's a tiny tidbit on Retribution Special Forces. You know, those restricted army lists the other WM factions have that nobody uses because they suck? Well, that might change. Oh almost forgot. Something totally new with themed forces. There are 3 Themed forces for Retribution each force has 4 tiers when you meet the force composition requirements of a tier you gain the benefits of it. These benefits are cumulative. So if your army meets the requirement of tier 1 and 2 you gain both benefits. For example. Shadows of Retribution. Tier 1 Requirements: Kaleyssa, also includes only models that are non-character retribution warjacks, mage hunter units, arcanist solos, ghost sniper solos or mage hunters solos. Benefit: Mage hunter Strike Force units in the army are FA U. I really hope that the benefits outweigh the restrictions, especially at the higher tiers. My guess is Mage Hunters (as shown), Dawnguard, and Magisters are the three forces. If so, I will be tempted to start a tier 4 mittens force.

I dunno if I'm on board with the benefits outweighing the costs. It seems like if they did people would play them in preference to an ordinary faction list, and they will all tend to look like each other. I'd prefer that the costs outweigh the benefits, so they are not as strong as ordinary faction lists. People will still play them, but they'll also play the basic lists.
Remember the old CSM codex in 40k? Everyone played a legion specific army, everyone. And they all looked alot like each other. I much prefer the current CSM/WM codexes, where you can make your own force if you want, and be decently assured you won't run into your clone at a tourney. Soudns like the new WM force tiers could be the best of both worlds.

You trade those themed benefits for a focused army, but you lose out on versatility. Mage Hunter Strike Forces, for example, may be deadly, but they're still just a unit with set abilities. If you have too many of them your opponent can tailor his plan to face them.
It's likely that as you go up in tiers the requirements become more strict, locking you into a narrower and narrower path. In this case, your opponent will start tailoring his list to your since you kind of have to tell him you're playing a special forces list. If he asks what tier, he will likely know a vast majority of what you're taking.
That said, because you're doing stuff like breaking field allowances and probably getting other abilities, it balances out.
I hope they have a Kaelyssa themed army that's not quite so angry and hellbent on war.
These theme armies might make me come back to Khador, which I'm a little tired of.

True. In tournies, it's less of a problem since people can't tailor their lists, but you're more vulnerable to a bad match up taking you out. Of course, this year's Nationals tournament doesn't let you use the same warcaster more than once, meaning any given special forces list is only good for one round in the tournament.
Anyways, I was just on the phone with malfred. He's at Gencon and spilled the beans on the Magister special force. Of course, while we were talking someone posted exactly what I wanted to know on the PP boards, so I could have asked him something else. Oh well. I'll see if I can't get more info from him later, but for now this will have to do.
Tier 1
Only must include Adeptis as the warcaster, no character jacks, houseguard units, arcanist solos, battle mage units, magister solos.
Turns battle mages FA U, solos gets FA increased by 1
Tier 2
In addition to tier 1, 2 or more heavy jacks
Add an arcanist solo for free and doesn't count toward FA
Tier 3
In addition to tier 2, 3 or more magister solos
Battle mages and Magister solos gain Advance Move
Tier 4
In addition to tier 3, 4 or more battle mage units.
Friendly models/units can begin the game affected by Rahn's upkeep spells. Must be declared before either player sets up models. Rahn does not have to pay focus to upkeep these spells during your first turn.
So to get to Tier 4, you need Rahn, 2 heavy myrmidons (Rahn's 6 WJ points help offset this), 3 Magister solos (probably 2 points each), and 4 battle mage units (malf says 5 points each, fixed size unit). And a free Arcanist. That's about 40 points right there, depending on what jacks you take, leaving you with 10-ish points for the other things allowed in the special force. 50 points in MkII is supposedly around 750 points in MkI, so it shouldn't be too unwieldy. I kind of like it.

Wow, I can see why they broke it into tiers then.
I really like the system. If my friend plays that army at 50 points, I know exactly what he's got save for those 10 points.

Other Gencon spoilers:
Apparently the final MkII battle boxes were being used to run demos.
Styker and Kreoss are about the same as the FT as are the jacks. Kreoss lost Ignite which hurts. Sorcha is the same as is the Juggernaut, the Destroyer lost 1 pow to its axe. Deneghra is about the same but she lost Dark Seduction and gained Influence. The Defiler changed its sludge cannon to a spray attack and gained a bash attack which is a p+s equal to its strength.
Derpa derp, Defilers always had a Bash attack. Nightwretches too.
Also, for preordering the hard cover MkII book, you get a model that won't be released for some time. It's Madelyn Corbeau, Ordic courtesan, a mercenary solo that will work for all five WM factions. Automatically Appended Next Post: Here's Madelyn's info.
If she is in b2b with a friendly warcaster or solo they gain +1 cmd.
She has an ability called intrigue which says if one of more enemy models are in her cmd range during your maintenance phase you can move 1 friendly warrior model in her command range up to 3".
Seduction is any non warcaster/warlock enemy warrior model that she is in b2b with she can control and they can immediately move and make 1 normal attack at which point this effect expires and the controlled model cannot be targeted by free strikes while under this effect.
She also has an ability called sucker! which if she is hit by an enemy ranged attack she can nominate 1 friendly living warrior model within 2" of her and it can suffer the effects of the attack. This is not a once per turn ability.

I wonder if the Battleboxes will be modified as they no longer contain an even number of points (between boxes).
I suspect the battlebox Warjacks will be the first on the list for being redone in plastic.

There's been some scuttlebutt about concept art for one new jack for each of the factions. Currently, only two descriptions have made it to the board.
One is an Ironclad chassis with two open fists and two underslung chain guns.
The other is a Crusader with a flail and a shield.

My guess is that any future plastic jacks will follow the format of the Retribution heavy warjack (three jacks in one box).
For example the first Cryx plastic will be a Slayer/Reaper/*newjack* setup, not only does this allow for a new warjack release it also frees up the Slayer and Reaper SKUs (PP seem keen to free up SKUs) this can be followed by a Leviathan/Harrower/*newjack* box, perhaps next year. This would be repeatable across all the factions, with only Khador spoiling the symmetry.

You're half right, George. The original Cryxian helljack was the Slayer, and their new one is based off of that.
The Khador one appeared to be a Juggernaut with one arm being a buzzsaw and the other arm being a gun of some type, it looked pretty wicked.
The Cryx one appeared to be a Slayer with a gun that looked like an Injector of some sort and a crab like claw on the other arm that also looked like it had some smaller injectors in there. It looked like a machine built for torture and death, loved the artwork on it.
So it will be Slayer/Reaper/New jack and Juggernaut/Destroyer/Marauder/New jack.
I would also like to thank PP posters Creation Matrix and Demeritus for providing most of these spoilers.

You know, that 3 Jacks in a box idea is one of the best ideas I've heard in a while. Great for everyone since local stores can easily keep the stock on the shelf while still having variety, we get more easily customized plastic jacks along with bits, and privateer gets to use some cost saving from the plastic while still providing basically 3 new jacks based off one chassis.
And to be honest, a lot of the current metal jacks are also based on the same chasis, which is one of the reasons why I got tired of Khador.
