Ok, so I played in my first 40k Tourney this past Saturday. It was a great event (as usual from my FLGS) and figured I'd post the battle report as it's 5 AM and I have nothing better to do. This is all from memory so may not be completely correct (like stuff happening in the right turn) but here it goes. The armies present were:
2 orks
1 tyranids
1 necron
1 eldar
1 SM biker
3 vulkan marines
1 vanilla marines

My list:

HQ:
Warboss - klaw, squig, 'eavy, cybork
Big Mek - 'eavy, KFF

Boyz x20 - nob, klaw, pole

Round 1:
Annihilation - Spear head deployment

Opponent: Space marines with vulkan.
List from memory:

Turn 1:
SM player: I won the dice roll and picked to go second, which turned out to not be so goo ad the table corner he picked, had a nice big piece of cover for him to hide from my lootas from, and mine had nothing. He deployed in two large units on either side of the ruin in his zone, one side had the LR with the incinerator dread next to it, a rhino, and a razorback. Other side had the rest of the transports. Behind the ruins were the tac squad and both land speeders. He moved a few units forward, including the LR, but other than that, not much activity.

ME: I get over confident and send the BW with the big mek and warboss in it directly at the LR, disembark and prepare for the assault on it. All trukks move flat out, one more along side the warboss unit, the other two going off towards the other flank and at the rest of his army, other BW move 13" and sits. Shooting yields a few shaken results from the kanz and lootas on a couple of the other transports. I assault the LR needing 4's to hit from the warboss and nob in the unit...out of 10 attacks, 2 hits, no glances or pens...damn.

Turn 2:
SM player: The turn I would love to forget, he keeps most of his army stationed where they're at, brings one land speeder out from behind cover and parks it between my BWs, move the other one over by the trukks and kans on the other flank. In his shooting phase he move the dread by the LR up a little and drops templates on my warboss' unit, killing 15...ouch. The trukks don't fare too well on the other flank as both get popped, and the 'Ard boyz get wiped out by fire from the tac squad, razobacks and the land speeder. Meganobs get stuck out in the open (they get theirs later) The other speeder tries to pen the empty wagon, and gets nothing. In the assault phase his dread assaults the warboss' unit, he directs all attacks at the warboss, gets one wound, I fail my invul and lose him to instant death (yay...). I get a roll on the damage table against it so combat is a draw.

ME: I try to move my meganobs closer to maybe get an assault off on either the dread on that side, or the razorback behind it...double 1's for movement, awesome. The trukk on the side with my warboss moves up a little, but doesn't get out. The empty battlewagon rams the land raider and pops it. Other battlwagon moves over to the land raider but everyone stays inside (was expecting the dread to finish off my other unit, and didn't want its templates being able to hit the unit) Shooting phase, the lootas shake the other dread but other than that, fail to do anything else. (they get better later on) meganobs run (I waaaghed) and..I roll a 1!...in the assault phase the nobz go after the dread and manage to blow it up, but not before losing 1 to the dread, and another to the blast (since it had a wound on it from the last shooting phase). The other dread kills the nob from the unit, and my big mekk couldn't hurt him, dies to sweeping advance. Biggest mistake in this turn: Didn't have my nob in the other battlewagon use the plank to attack the LR, that didn't move.

Turn 3:
SM player: no real movement again, finishes off the meganobs with melta fire, then pops the full battlewagon and hits it with a couple templates, this time not so bad and the squad stays fearless. Pops the last trukk, and that was about it for the turn.

ME: Managed to blow up a rhino with 5 storm troopers inside from assaulting it with the 12 boyz that came out of the trukk. This is where my memory sucks as I can't remember what happened to the other battlewagon unit, I believe I tried assualting the LR again, and nothing happened. Lootas managed to immobilze and destroy the DCCW with the heavy flamer on it by the boyz, my empty wagon tries ramming a razorback...nothing.

Turn 4:
SM player: Once again, not much movement. His meltas take out the kanz (who did jack squat the whole game) and the land raider crusader wipes out the unit of battlewagon boyz. storm troopers also added to this as well.

ME: The last trukk boyz (and the last of my offensive) goes after the storm troopers and wipes them out (duh) but not before losing 3 boyz...Lootas pop a rhino and then the other unit waste the scouts inside.

Turn 5:
SM player: dumps all his firepower into clearing out that last boyz unit, and it worked

ME: wrecked a razorback with loota fire, at this point all I have left is the two units of lootas. :(

We go to turn 6:
SM player: Moves everything behind the ruins on his side or behind the LR giving me nothing to shoot at.

ME: Couldn't shoot at anything.

Game ends, loss 19-3
This guy was a great player, and great sportsman, even though I lost I had a great time playing him, and his army was EXTREMELY well painted, just wish he had more time to play than once a month (family guy)

Round 2:
Capture and Control
Pitched battle

Opponent: SM biker list
Unit of command squad bikers
Second unit of command squad bikers
3 units of bikers with attack bikes and multi meltas

Turn 1:
I won the roll and this time picked to go first (though would regret it a little). I deploy one unit of lootas in the ruins on my right, and the other along the table edge on the left (no cover) everything else I placed centered in a caravan style ( to maximize KFF) He deployed his entire army off on my right out of range of the lootas on my left, and placed his objective in that table corner ( placed mine in the ruins under the lootas).

ME: I move the caravan 13" towards him army, and try to run the kanz as they were over in front of the other lootas. Lootas fire this turn kills 1 from the closest command squad.

SM player: Moves his command squad towards my caravan, and moves the other one closer to the ruins with the lootas. opens fire and take out 4 of the lootas, luckily I made the morale check. The other command squad tried popping the closest wagon, but was unable to.

Turn 2:
ME: move the warboss wagon closer, get out and assault the command squad closest to me. Kanz move and run again, as did the lootas on that side. the rest of the caravan moved forward to try and outflank the rest of his army. Loota fire gets another from the other command squad (damn feel no pain). the combat doesn't go so well for me, I wipe out all but the commander in the squad, but lose 10 boyz, after fearless.

SM player: He moves the other command squad up and assaults into the mix with my warboss. he strings out one of the other biker units to hold the objective, and still get within range to try and blow up the trukk I moved onto my objective (see, knew I would forget something, I moved the trukk with the regular boyz by the ruins holding my objective during my turn) and he immobilizes it. In combat the other command unit takes out about 6 boyz, and all i could do was kill the commander from the other squad, not fearless anymore and failed morale, got away but was running the rest of the game (sucks since both IC were stuck in that unit).

Turn 3:
ME: I move the kanz up, and actually fire them this turn, takes out one from the remaining command squad, I think there was 4 left at this point. Lootas open up taking out 2 more. The kanz also assault them this turn. The meganobs and 'Ard boyz now run up and assault one of the units of bikers while my other battlewagon unit moves to get ready to go after the other. The nobs and boyz prevail taking out the unit at the cost of 1 meganob and no boyz. I consolidate to get read to hop back in my trukks. Kanz kill one more from the command squad, but also lose one of them as well.

SM player: He moves his spread out bike squad my grouped on the objective, to get ready for the incoming boyz, the other unit moves up and fires at the battlewagon , but fails to pop it (love that front armor 14) his multi melta rolled snake eyes for the damage. Somwhere in here he fires and fnishes off the lootas in the ruins, forgot how.

Turn 4:
ME: 'Ard boyz and mega nobs get back in their rides and skate towards the objective. The battlewagon boyz get out and assault the unit of bikers in front of them. the other lootas twiddle their thumbs and the kanz fail to kill the last command squad guy (damn 3+ invuln) The boyz managed to kill all but the attack bike in the biker unit, I lose a few boyz.

SM player: Not wanting to leave his objective, he fires at the meganobz transport to try and pop it, nothing happens. In combat, his last command squad guy continues to make his saves, and I finish off the attack bike in the other unit.

Turn 5:
ME: Meganobs were too far away to assault out of the trukk, so I went flat out to get a unit within range of his objective, the 'Ard boyz and the other battlewagon unit both assault the last biker unit that was on his objective. the Kans FINALLY kill that last command squad guy. Combat went quick as I think I managed to finish off the last biker unit, either happened here or on my turn.

Victory 20-3
I like playing against this player as well, second time going against his list and it was actually a very close match at the start of the game despite my terrible recall. If the dice gods did not decide to turn against him, he could have easily tabled me I think.

Round 3:
Seize ground 5 objectives
spear head (I hate spear head)

Opponent: Orks

10 nobz in trukk

This one I'm going to sum up a bit fast as it's now 6 am and I'm pretty tired.

Basically neither one of us were happy having to play eachother as at the table next to us there were two perfectly good vulkan marine armies playing eachother also! But I digress.

I went first again, and didn't accomplish much outside of popping the trukk that had the nobz inside. He gets close and pops one of my trukks from boomwagon firing. I did manage to wipe out wazzdakka's unit, but it was from a dual charge of meganobs, 12 'ard boyz, oh and the battlewagon boyz (not warboss unit) he moves his nobs up the side they were on, taking hits along the way from lootas and kanz, assault the kanz and pops all three, then keeps going. His nobs reached my lootas (also where an objective was) and wiped one unit out (at this point it was 2 nobs with 1 wound each and the warboss, first time having WAC used against me). Instead of trying to deal with his nobs this whole time, I let them have that objective and instead sent my warboss' wagon at his lootas and objective, which I got without a hitch, in the middle there was a big skirmish between his shoota boyz and my other units, but eventually I manage to take out the shootas, but not after losing my battlewagon unit (I underestimated shootas potential against sluggas in cc) He moved his slugga boyz in from reserve to sit on his objective there. So at this point, I have two, and he has 2 (but one contested by lootas) I spread out my 'ard boyz unit to stretch far enough to grab 2 objectives with them and the warboss unit pops the boomwagon by them to make sure he can't contest. By the end of the game he had his slugga boyz stretched out and contested one of the two held by my 'ard boyz.

Minor win 13-10

His list was very unique, and unexpected, but damn was it a tough list to play against, this is how close it was, if the game ended on turn 5, I get a major win, if the game goes to turn 7, he gets a major win. It probably should have been a draw as he didn't assault the lootas contesting the objective with his nobz/warboss as he thought it would pull them off the objective, which I think it wouldn't have, I probably should have told him, but I forgot about that also till it was too late.


Anyway, when it was all settled and the tourney ended, I managed to still get 4th (out of 10 I think). Top 5 looked like this:

Tyranids (nidzilla)
Vulkan marines (the guy I played against)
Vulkan marines
mech orks (me)
necrons

Even though the necron player got 5th, he would have gotten first if he could have beaten the tyranid player in the last round, my brother was the nid player and I have no idea why his list was so strong, but he did great for his first 40k tourney also (and he only started 40k about 6-7 weeks ago).

All in all, I loved playing in it, the atmosphere at my FLGS is always great and all the gamers are great dudes.

Good report - thanks for the write up. The bike list is illegal - they can only have one command squad per captain on bike.

I think each unit did have a captain in it, since he said they were identical except for the banner thingy.
