For those of you that are headed to Chicago next month--be sure to give them a call to secure your spot. It *probably* won't be an issue, but if you're going to drop a couple hundred bucks on a plane ticket...

I called up the battle bunker this morning and asked them whether our spots were guaranteed or if we needed to sign up. The manager replied, "That's an excellent question. I've got a call in to GW about that already."

I then asked how much space was available and was told that they have fifty tables, "so I figure we'll take 70 or 75 for 'Ard Boyz." When I told him that there were 93 potential players from the semis (given 31 locations to seed from), he was a little taken aback. At that point he said, "Give me a call tomorrow and if everyone's spot isn't guaranteed, I'll sign you up."

I gave my buddy rednekgunner a quick heads up about it, and in less than an hour he let me know that they'd decided to go ahead and start taking signups.

To skip to the end, they still don't know what the player cap is, whether there will *be* a player cap, or anything else beyond the date of the tourney. Again, probably not an issue, but there were a few people at the regionals in WA that were pretty upset about being turned away from the semifinals due to the 18 player cap at the store. Getting turned away at the finals would be an entirely different tornado of suck...

Really? That surprises the hell out of me.

The only way I could see *not* going is if I took 1st at the semis and just wanted to take the 2500 point army and run.

Or your company decides to push back an ERP go live date to the Monday after the finals and you have to be in town that weekend.

If GW announced what the prize was and offer 10,000 dollars in product it would do better.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

They've got plenty of space to accomodate the folks that show up, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I don't think either of the previous two years has had a space issue, and the Chicago Battle Bunker is pretty big. Much as I'm sure many of us qualifiers are interested in going, reality is that a minority of us are likely to have all three elements of: Inclination, time and travel money.

Agreed.. I got time and money but very very little inclination.. After 2 years of 1st place in semis and 2 years of failed events I simply dont like going to tournaments that have such absurd variations in quality (the finals that is)
