yo people.

heres the story, friend no play 40k no more. give me his Dark Eldar army. I want play but dont know whats good for them.

if you cant figure that out well good for you. but help me out and tell me what are the best and the worst unites to play with!!!!

thanks a load. peace....and other pointless sayings

"In the name of the Emperor CHARGE!!!!"

Id rather have a rail-gun than a lazcannon!!!

A trooper is drilled in combat and his duties to the Imperium: he is stout of heart and eager to enforce the Emperor's law.

If anyone lives in Cape Town South Africa...get in touch and we can have a game!!!!

Hello there or maybe 'yo'

Dark Eldar are one of the most fun armies to use. They are one of (if not the) fastest and hardest hitting armies out there yet a sneezing gnat will kill them.

The units you will hinge your game plan upon are Sniper squads (slang for a 10 man footslogger squad with two dark lances), Raider squads, Ravagers, Incubi, Lords and Wyches.
Raiders are essential. They offer an extended charge distance and unparalleled mobility. If you can buy a squad a raider then do.
Never use Hellions or Scourges. And I mean NEVER.

What has your friend given you?

Please try to use slightly better grammar. It really aids in understanding. Ok? Ohh and talk to a mod if you want to change your flag to the south african flag as its the US one at the mo (and you dont want to be flying that )

Most Dark Eldar players around here fall into one of two themes.

The raider rush: Most units are in raiders. Fast, hits hard but extremely fragile since bolters will take down your transports. Not for the inexperienced player or the faint of heart. Wytches and Incubi really shine with this list.

Hordes of foot sloggers: Lots of maxed out infantry squads with scourges for fire support. It’s like spikey imperial guard without the tanks. Sounds strange but works well and is fairly competitive for the tournament scene.

Whatever you do, stay away from grotesques and hellions.

Mehh sorry I'm a bit of a Grammar nazi at times. was just remarking about the slightly incoherent first sentance. And woooooo for Hypocrasy as I spell everything wrong.

The codex is always 'just around the corner' but it never arrives. Its like waiting for Father Christmas you hear noises yet he never appears and you find out it was actually your parents.

Wait, does your friend have the DE codex? Maybe you can borrow it.

There is actually a really neat tactica in the articles section. (He goes over the Raider Air Force as well as what to give your HQ, along with some totally awesome humor)

Edit: And bad grammar as in using two question marks

I constantly play Raider rush.
The army consists of
Archon,
2 or 3 Wych units in Raiders (10 Wyches w/ wych weapons, Succubus w/ agonizer, trophy rack),
2 or 3 Sniper squads (10 Warriors w/ darklance x2),
2 or 3 Raider squads (10 Warriors w/ splinter cannon, blaster), and
3 Ravagers.
Go ahead and bring many slaves to Camorragh.

Thanks a lot! I figured the tactics might be helpful...though I always just sort of expected groans for the humor.

Dark Eldar Tactica

I give more then a few of my own thoughts about what is or is not viable for Dark Eldar. The general consensus you're hearing here is pretty spot on with my thoughts. Raiders and Warriors are ace and you should take a lot, Wyches and your Lord are great tools. Things like the Talos, jetbikes, and Haemonculi can be pretty good but require a careful touch and are easier to misuse. And, yeah, Hellions and Scourges are...well...probably best left in a small dark hole until 2037 when we get a new codex.

Edit - by the by, I'm totally sigging that.

I think I need new friends. He gave you an army?

And if you want a little more opinion and possible hard fact you can check out the pole I made on whether or not the DE will get a new codex:

one last thing. How many raiders should one include in a basic army? and wyches, should they be mounted in them as apposed to your warriors

It all depends on what type of list you want to run... Get some more info, play a few games, and see what you gravitate towards.

Welcome to the dark side brother!

For the most part Dark eldar are played as a mobile force, it is very, very rare to see a footslogging DE army in 5th edition.

That being said there are three ways to play mobile DE:

Raider assault

Or

counter attack

Or

Mobile Gunline

All are very viable but use different in tactics. And for the most part our small DE community likes to banter at length what is the most useful build.

I play more of a counter attack list, if this is your cup of tea feel free to ask me any sort of questions.

If you like the assault / wyche theme ask Seven, he is a long time DE player and a great contributor to DD.

If you want to sit back and unload a withering amount of fire upon your enemies (play tau ), talk to Messiah, he is a relatively new member of DD but from the posts he has he seems to be the strongest and most knowledgeable proponent of gunline DE.

If you would like to wade knee deep into the finer points of DE tactic check out some of my more recent DE debates (involving some of the fine people I have mentioned)

Also disregard most of the "Dark Eldar Tactica" it is swill, and it was hardly relevant the day it was written, let alone after the meta-game changing Nob Biker lists, and Mech Vets.

If you are making a shopping list don't leave home without the following:

1 Archon
1 Drazar
2-5 Incubi
3 Haemonculi (get the destructor models)
20-40 warriors, Make sure you have 6-12 dark lances and at least 6 blasters
6+ raiders
3 ravagers
1-3 squads of wyches
5 warpbeast and 1 beastmaster
Add Vect to the list if you are playing 2000 point games

If you want to play wyche cult, Ignore the archon, incubi, and Haemonculous, and take half as many warriors, double the wyches and add a beast squad for each wyche squad you have, BUY lilith cuz shes great.

I will post some more later but for now its bed time.
