Greetings, Dakka Dakka Community!
How rude of me, before I even introduced myself I'd made a post asking for advice on an IG army and a post moaning about how powerful Eldar Rangers are! Ahh well, time for my introduction I guess!
I grew up playing GW games. I was running around the local store when I was seven years old... so that's nineteen years ago now! In the true fashion of kids that age, I didn't really collect an army, more so I collected whatever was shiny and new that week, so unfortunately I have very little to show for my life long appreciation of the hobby. I kind of lost interest for a few years and ended up getting rid of the few figures I did have left in order to fund a beer habit, but now I'm back! Happily, a bunch of my mates never did quit and they've all got established armies and figures for me to borrow, also giving me some excellent opponents.
SO, now I just need to re-familiarise myself with the rules (5e is kind of funky, I've read it a couple of times but I'm still getting used to it) and pick an army. I've been watching this community from afar for a week or two, looks like a great place. I'll be posting regularly!
My main interest, at least whilst I'm getting back into the swing of things, is 500-750pt games. I have a huge interest in competitive play also, I'll be entering some doubles tournaments once I'm up to speed. With this in mind, can anybody point me in the direction of a fun-to-play, powerful force at this level?

The job of a witch hunter is getting SO much easier. BTW, Welcome to Dakka, mate.
On Eldar Ranger/Pathfinder, get something, anything into CC with them and they will die. A single sergeant of mine (laspistol and chainsword, nothing special) once took down the whole sqaud.
As for your army? Make sure you stick with the servants of the Emprah, or else you shall burn.

Haha no, I just find it my public duty to forewarn the neophytes about EF's Inquisition, preference for vegemite, love of Queen Victoria, etc. It is a very fulfilling anti-job.
