Hi. New here and to the game generally (warhammer 40k that is). I have been playing for about 2 months now. I play a Chaos Daemons army, and so far can only fill 1700 points at maximum. I hope to expand in coming months. Though I am new to the game I am not new to strategy and fantasy/sci-fi mythology. I am currently a student so I don't have a ton of time on my hands, but I am greatly enjoying the game. I have been scouring this message board for since I started, and I am now joining in order to ask certain questions, all are in relation to a current project. Constructing back story, rules, and models for a new Chaos God.
1. Is it the painting and modeling area or the rules discusion board or a combination that is best to start
2. Does anyone have any knowledge of the mathematical relations used by wargame designers to determine point values of units.
3. Has this been done before (developing new models and new rules for an army supplement) how did they accomplish it.

This is the prime reason I am doing this (joining a message board). now many of you will ask why I want to develop a 5th chaos attribute. I am doing so for three reasons.
1. To fill a void that was left by the old loved Chaos God Malal (which has been discussed at length this new god will be quite different from him). Perhaps not everyones cup of tea attempting to replace a classic, but that is why reason number two...
2. I found a terrible hole in the selection for the Chaos Daemons army. They can definitely do with a supplement. I intend on conceptualizing and building, a Greater Daemon, herald, troop choice, elite choice, and heavy support choice plus a mark of said god and gifts for a Daemon Prince. I will also be consulting with my local gamers. i intend to develop concept first (emotions that give it rise ) and from there develop the look and rules of the models.
3. Very few antitank capabilities, warmachines make mincemeat of Daemons at range. Correct me if I am wrong. If I am wrong I will abandon this focus, if there is some other imbalancing weakness let me know, this is one of the purposes of the project
Until I am directed to the appropriate board this is what I have so far.
The concept thus far is completely based only in 40k not fantasy. The Chaos God is (have not decided on a name) one birthed from the empirium of man. Just as Slaanesh was birthed from the decadence of the Eldar, this God is birthed from the montony of human existence. He/she (havn't decided yet) is the embodiment of desparate devotion without reward, sadness and hopelessness. The vast hordes of human beings living in squalor and being unnoticed by higher powers, empower this Chaos God. The Chaos God is an embodiment of all unnoticed and ignorant. It is an idiot God, spawning daemons without knowing it, participating in the Great Game by consequence of It's existence. It's daemons serve it because of a loathing devotion. They have power over the hope of others, they depress those they combat. In the great Game the daemons of Khorne find themselves losing their insatiable bloodlust, Tzeentchian daemons no longer take joy in change, seeing it as dull, Nurglings lose their enthusiasm and Slaaneshites get board with battle and abandon their cause. It is the antithesis of faith, love and passion, it passively drains the souls out of the mediocre and corrupts the exceptional.
That is it for now. If nobody wants to help let me know that this is an inappropriate avenue of pursuit and i will leave the board and abandon this idea. But if you do see this as valuable, please let me know where to discuss this project as a whole, and help me find pictorial inspiration for the models. I was thinking semi-lovcraftian, hording, anything that inspires hopelessness and despair. Inspires the drone of mediocrity and desolation, the rabble of crowds and mindlessess. Just feed me ideas when I am on the appropriate board.

I suggest you post in 40K Background Discussion to develop the idea of a new Chaos power.

As far as army list and points values goes, the trick would be to copy the abilities and points values of existing weapons and given them a new name and fluff, rather than radically invent completely new weapons.

There are mathematical relationships between weapon/unit factors and points values. These can be determined to some extent from analysing the basic probabilities of the game (To Hit, etc.) Some people set up computer programs to run thousands of simulated encounters (to rule out chance) and test weapons and points values.

Whether GW ever used any kind of analysis in unit design I don't know. I doubt it, and from what one of the studio guys was saying on the former GW community forums, they don't do it now. (He was decrying the use of computer analysis in game design.)

I think GW rely on a combination of heritage, informed guesswork, and limited playtesting.

Great , I felt like I was grasping for the right word, but enslavement is perfect!! I was also thinking that I am only representing a small aspect of the Imperium. The other aspect would be the upper echelons severe paranoia. So I have a few ideas now I am going straight to the Background discussion board to write a skeleton concept and get suggestions on a name.

Hey, Welcome to Dakka Dakka.
I really like the idea of the new chaos gods, it beats some of the others i've seena round.
If you come up with some good rules, which with the help of some people 'ronud here, you should be able to, it'll be a great suppliment.
It gives Chaos Daemons a bit more not-so-combat-orientated models, with more psychological effects. A possible rule could include, say, a spell that causes a unit to automatically fall back as they have lost any will whatsoever. You could keep going. Rules that attack psychers who open they're minds to the warp. Its a great concept with lots of room to create!

When you call an intimate moment with your partner "the Assault Phase"

Is that followed by a pile-in move?

That brings a whole new meaning to the term "Hit and Run"

Can that be following a deep strike, or do you have to wait until the next round?
